"Ohhh..." Dakota murmured, seeming satisfied with the explanation, but then her expression changed slightly as she leaned closer to him. "But you smell like you just freshened up."
Kade's smile widened as Dakota carefully pushed herself upright and moved closer, her curiosity getting the better of her as she leaned toward him and took another small breath.
"You definitely smell like you just took a shower," she murmured, narrowing her eyes playfully as she studied him.
Kade looked at her with quiet amusement. "Maybe I did."
Dakota raised an eyebrow. "Maybe?"
Takoda giggled from his arms, clearly entertained by her mother's interrogation, while Kade shook his head and pulled his daughter a little closer.
"I was talking to mother across the gardens when a bird decided to relieve itself on me," he said with complete seriousness. "I had no choice but to come back and clean myself up. What do you think?"
