Ethan said nothing. His jaw remained tightly clenched as he stared ahead, refusing to meet either of their eyes. He seemed unwilling to accept any part of what Gerald had told him, still holding onto the belief that Cooper belonged to him and that Dakota could somehow be brought back to him, despite everything that had already been revealed.
Ethan remained silent for several seconds, his jaw clenched so tightly that the muscles along the side of his face stood out. Gerald waited for an answer, but none came. Instead, Ethan's breathing gradually became heavier, his chest rising and falling beneath the hospital gown as the anger inside him continued to build.
"Ethan," Gerald said, his voice lower now, "we are not asking you to say anything that you don't know. We are asking you to tell us the truth about what happened."
"I have nothing to say," Ethan muttered.
"Then why are you so angry?"
Ethan suddenly turned toward him, his eyes filled with fury.
