Dakota gave him a tired look. "Kade..."
"Please," he said, and there was no authority in his voice this time, only quiet concern. "Just let yourself be comfortable."
After hearing the worry beneath his words, Dakota finally obeyed. She slowly straightened her legs along the seat, allowing her body to relax more fully. Kade shifted carefully while keeping Takoda secure in his arms, then looked at Dakota and gently patted his lap.
"Come here."
Dakota stared at him for a moment before moving closer. With Kade's help, she carefully lowered herself sideways until her head rested against his lap, her legs stretched out comfortably in front of her. The moment she settled there, she felt some of the tension leave her body. Kade adjusted her position until he was certain she was comfortable, then rested one hand gently against her hair.
