Kade's fingers continued moving gently through her hair.
"She was happy," Dakota added quietly, her voice trembling as she remembered the look on her daughter's face.
"You didn't know this would happen," Kade said softly.
Dakota said nothing more. Her eyes filled again, and she turned her face slightly toward Cooper, watching his small body lying beneath the blanket.
Kade understood the thoughts passing through her mind without needing her to explain them. She had lost their baby only hours ago, and now she was terrified of losing their son as well. Her body was exhausted, her emotions were raw, and yet she continued trying to remain strong for everyone around her.
Kade gently caressed her hair, his fingers moving slowly over her scalp. "Don't think about another pregnancy now," he murmured. "You need to heal first. If you keep putting that pressure on yourself, your health will suffer."
Dakota's lips trembled slightly, but she remained silent.
