Chapter 32 Part 2 Confession To Mother

This recording struck him at the heart.

"You wanted evidence. Is this enough?" Mother shook the phone slightly, staring at him with a near-cruel expression.

Qi lowered his head, breathing heavily. She lounged back, waving the phone.

Suddenly Qi lunged, grabbing for the phone. She hadn't expected a direct snatch; caught off guard, she fell back onto the sofa with him on top.

In the past, he could never have overpowered Mother. But months of training had given him greater strength and explosiveness than most boys his age even stronger than many undertrained 16- or 17-year-olds.

They grappled on the sofa.

"Qi, are you crazy?" she cried, one hand holding the phone high, the other pushing him away. He wrestled for the phone.

Her full body twisted beneath him, rubbing against his, and he felt an involuntary spark. He looked down her face was wet with tears.

"Mom is crying…" he froze. A voice in his head shouted: "She's your mother!"

She seemed to give up, closing her eyes, her body relaxing, her tear-streaked face making his heart ache.

"If you want it, take it…" she whispered, lowering the phone.

Qi lost control and kissed her deeply on the mouth. Phones and evidence, he no longer cared.

"To hell with evidence… This is my mother. My life is from her. She can do whatever she wants to me…" His mind went blank; he felt only the touch of her lips.

The TV continued chattering; otherwise, the room was silent.

Qi had been with more than one woman Aunt, Sister, even Beigong Lingyu's mother, Feng but he had never felt this: how wonderful a kiss alone could be.

When their lips sealed, he felt as if he melted.

He had kissed these lips before, but only in a fleeting instant. Now, as he abandoned everything and poured himself into the sensation of the kiss, he utterly drowned in it.

Mother stopped sobbing and opened her eyes. Their mouths were together; in each other's pupils, they saw themselves.

They stilled completely, hearing only the warmth of lips meeting.

The wall clock ticked on. Neither stirred.

Her hands slowly wrapped around his back. He circled her soft waist in reply.

After an unknown time, Mother murmured, "Carry Mom to the bed. It's hard here… and cold…"

Qi rose, hooked one arm around her shoulders and one around her waist, and lifted her. Her arms slid around his neck, head resting against his chest.

He carried her into the bedroom her phone fell beside the sofa, forgotten.

He laid her on the bed and lay down beside her.

She turned on her side, an arm around his neck, the other caressing his face. Through tears, she whispered, "Your father doesn't want me… and you're close with your aunt… You've both gone… Mom has nothing. I don't want to live…"

Qi put his face to hers, kissing her tears. "Don't say that, Mom. How could I leave you? I'll be with you forever."

"But you and Xiaomei…" she began.

"Mom… I'm your son. Even if Aunt and I… I'm still your son. I could never leave you." He stroked her shoulder.

She closed her eyes, pressed her head into his chest, breathing steadily. Her hand left his face and rested on his chest. They lay embracing, saying nothing.

After a while, she asked softly, "Tell Mom how did you and Xiaomei get together?"

Qi didn't care anymore. Eyes closed, feeling her warmth, he slowly told the story.

Mother listened quietly, her head bowed. When he finished, she lifted her face and asked gently, "Qi, do you truly love your aunt?"

He hesitated; in his heart he knew he did. But with Mother asking, he feared the truth would wound her.

She smiled faintly. "I know you're thinking of me. But I want the truth. I feel I've lived in lies for years. I don't want lies anymore."

Qi lowered his eyes and met her gaze. "I truly love her… but "

Her finger touched his lips. "Don't. Mom knows."

She rolled onto her back, staring at the ceiling as if talking to herself. "Seems you and your father aren't the same… Qi, many years ago, I asked your father the same question I asked if he still loved your second aunt. He told me he loved me… and that's when I decided to be with him. You're at least more honest than he was only a little… heh."

She actually giggled. Then: "But you're braver than your father. Did you think I couldn't see that Xiaomei always loved your father, and that your father doted on her too? They never crossed the line. You, though, went straight to bed with your aunt."

Qi's face burned to the ears.

She turned and saw it and teased, "Blushing now? Weren't embarrassed in the kitchen just now."

He muttered, "Some things can be done but not said… And it wasn't me sleeping with Aunt. She started it."

Mother snorted a laugh, then broke out into a peal of laughter. "Ha… ha… ha!"

Seeing her back to herself, he scratched his head. "Don't laugh, Mom. If you do, I really don't know what to do."

Her face changed; she spat, "Bah! You men are all the same! Your desire, and you blame women! I feel sorry for your aunt!"

Qi was speechless. Gender lines were drawn women stood with women, even rivals.

Seeing him at a loss, she nudged him with her foot. "Go shower… You still smell."

He suddenly remembered he'd worked up a sweat with Aunt in the kitchen. His body still bore that scent. He hadn't noticed, but Mother had. He jumped off the bed and ran to the bathroom to shower.
