Smoke and dust swallowed the room, thick enough to sting the eyes and choke the lungs.
Yet through the chaos, Jacqueline heard it.
The savage, bone-rattling snarls of wolves.
The sound was unmistakable.
The same sound she had heard the night they were attacked.
Her heart lurched violently in her chest.
Then a massive wolf stepped through the main entrance.
The moment she saw that gray fur, her heart slammed against her ribs.
Damien.
Even in wolf form, she would know him anywhere.
He wasn't alone.
Another enormous wolf stood beside him, its coat a striking ash color, its frame just as powerful and imposing. Behind them, more wolves began filing in one after another, stalking through the entrance like an unstoppable tide.
For a moment, the entire room fell into absolute silence.
The kind of silence where every breath was held.
