I wanted the ground to open up and swallow me before I could explain why Rowan was holding me. Not like it was his business but I had a feeling he didn't like what he just walked into.
"Umm…" the words stuck in my throat but Rowan helped me.
"I was helping her. Her foot got stuck"
"I can see that" Alpha Hades said flatly. He turned to me "I hope you didn't get injured" I shook my head.
"I'm fine. I'm not hurt"
The words tumbled from my mouth immediately. Rowan looked down at me, then at my ankle and then back at me.
"You almost fell." I glared at him. "Thank you for announcing it to the entire territory." I whispered so only he could hear.
"I was only helping."
"You are making it worse."
"I disagree."
"You won't agree that you are wrong."
"That's because I'm usually right." I groaned.
Beside us, Alpha Hades remained silent. The kind of silence that made the hairs on the back of my neck rise. I finally looked at him properly and immediately wished I hadn't.
