Chapter 4 - CHAPTER 4: The Intruder in the Mansion

**[Morning: Kim Mansion — 08:00 AM]**

Aeri didn't sleep.

Not really.

Her eyes burned as she stared at the ceiling,

but her mind—

was still trapped in last night.

The ballroom.

The cold air.

And him.

That man.

That presence.

Her fingers tightened around the bedsheet.

That grip.

That control.

That voice—

low… calm… dangerous.

Her breath slowed.

"Who are you…" she whispered.

Her gaze shifted to the table beside her.

The drive.

The one he had given her.

She picked it up slowly—

turning it between her fingers.

That wasn't normal.

Nothing about him was.

She stood and walked toward her desk.

Her laptop blinked to life.

The drive connected.

A single encrypted file appeared.

"DO YOU REMEMBER THE KEY?"

Her expression darkened.

Not again.

Not this.

Her fingers hovered over the keyboard—

then stopped.

No.

Not yet.

Because she knew—

once she opened it…

there would be no going back.

A sudden noise broke the silence.

Voices.

Loud.

From the garden.

Aeri frowned.

That was unusual.

She stepped onto the balcony—

and froze.

Her seven brothers stood below.

Surrounding someone.

And in the center—

a boy.

Simple white t-shirt.

Messy hair.

A worn-out backpack.

And a nervous smile.

"…Seriously?" she muttered.

Kang stood there.

Like he belonged.

"Hi Aeri!"

He waved awkwardly.

"Um… our history project… it wasn't finished, so I thought I could help you here."

Aeri's jaw tightened.

Her heartbeat didn't spike from fear—

but from irritation.

No.

From something else.

Something she refused to name.

*What are you doing here…?*

**[Breakfast: The Interrogation]**

The dining table felt like a battlefield.

Kang sat in the middle.

Her brothers surrounded him like predators.

Watching.

Judging.

Waiting.

Jin-su leaned forward slightly.

"I don't remember seeing you around college."

Kang smiled faintly.

"I usually stay in the library."

"Scholarship student," he added softly.

Min-ho's eyes narrowed.

"Your hands don't look like someone who just studies."

A pause.

Aeri cut in instantly.

"He works part-time."

Her tone was sharp.

Controlled.

A warning.

She placed a cup of coffee in front of Kang—

then leaned closer.

So only he could hear.

"Leave," she whispered coldly.

"Before you regret coming here."

Kang took a sip.

Calm.

Unbothered.

Then quietly—

without looking at her—

he said,

"You seem tense."

Aeri's fingers stilled.

"Did something happen last night?"

Her eyes flickered.

Just for a second.

Then hardened.

"You talk too much."

**[Library: The Silent War]**

The door shut.

Silence.

And the air changed instantly.

Aeri grabbed his collar—

pushed him back against the shelf.

Hard.

"What do you want?" she demanded.

Her voice was cold.

Sharp.

Dangerous.

Kang didn't resist.

Didn't react.

He just looked at her.

Calm.

Observing.

"You brought me here," he said quietly.

Aeri's grip tightened.

"Don't play games."

A pause.

Tension.

Thick.

Heavy.

Then—

he spoke again.

"You're not what you pretend to be."

Her eyes darkened.

"…Neither are you."

For a moment—

neither moved.

Too close.

Too aware.

Too dangerous.

Aeri stepped back first.

Control regained.

Mask on.

"Stay away from me," she said flatly.

Kang adjusted his sleeve.

A faint smile touched his lips.

"As you wish."

**[The Hidden Moves]**

Silence returned.

But the war had begun.

Invisible.

Silent.

Deadly.

When Aeri turned away—

Kang moved.

Fast.

A small device slipped under the table.

Hidden.

Unnoticed.

Or so he thought.

Aeri returned.

Her expression calm.

Too calm.

She handed him a file.

"Your project."

As he reached for it—

her fingers brushed his bag.

Light.

Precise.

Gone.

Two moves.

Two traps.

Neither noticed.

Or maybe—

both did.

**[Departure: The Warning]**

At the gate—

Aeri stopped.

"Don't come here again."

Her voice was quiet.

But firm.

Kang picked up his cycle.

Paused.

Then looked back.

His eyes lingered—

just a second too long.

"Last night," he said casually,

"You shouldn't trust strangers so easily."

Aeri's gaze sharpened.

"And you shouldn't show up uninvited."

A faint smile.

Then he left.

**[Final Scene: The Game Begins]**

Night.

Two different places.

Same silence.

Aeri stared at her screen.

A blinking signal.

Tracking active.

"Let's see where you run…" she whispered.

Across the city—

Kang removed his earpiece.

A faint voice echoed.

Static.

Fragments.

Enough.

He leaned back.

Eyes dark.

"Interesting…"

A pause.

Then a slow smile.

"The game just got better."

Somewhere between truth and lies—

the real war had already begun.
