In his room in Wren's mansion, Benjamin and Charles sat with chains around their ankles. Benjamin had asked for his help and refused to tell him anything unless Charles agreed to do exactly as he said. He didn't give an inch. Knowing how much it meant to him, Charles had agreed.
"The files — the research," Benjamin began quietly. "When I fled the lab, I left with a bag full of every document. I didn't know who to reach out to. Who to trust. There was no one left in the task force but me. Just me and the research files. I had to find somewhere to lay low because the size of the bag would draw too much attention. "
He exhaled and continued. "I found refuge in a small village in Arcadia, near the Nagan border. It was a stopping point for travelers passing through from Naga. Some Nagans had settled there to care for them. Two Nagan women, a mother and daughter, took me in. They were kind. Far kinder than I deserved.
