Chapter 17 - Chapter 17: Hello Neighbours! (2)

After meeting the fiery red-headed twins and the fashionable blonde next door, Clark couldn't help the persistent smirk tugging at the corners of his lips.

If this neighborhood was any indication of what his new life in San Francisco held, things were going to be far more lively than the quiet pastures of Smallville ever allowed.

Lana, meanwhile, remained firmly anchored to his left arm as they strolled down the pristine, tree-lined sidewalk behind Dash and Violet. She let out a small, tired yawn, leaning her weight against his arm with familiar ease.

"Vi, where are we heading next?" Lana asked, rubbing her eyes with her free hand. "Not that I'm complaining, but my feet are starting to protest."

Violet turned back with a bright, welcoming smile. "We're going to meet another close friend and neighbor of ours. She's... well, she's definitely something special, to say the least."

"Yup! Big sister Kim is seriously awesome," Dash chimed in, walking backward with hands clasped behind his head. "And even though Jim and Tim can be a total pain in the ass half the time, they're still my best friends. The absolute best."

Clark raised his eyebrows, an amused glint in his eyes. Another 'she', he noted mentally. A girl, and by the sound of it, she has a set of chaotic twin brothers. Just how generous was the universe feeling today?

Lana caught Clark's subtle facial expression and the barely suppressed gleam of amusement in his posture. She narrowed her eyes, her lips curling into an irritated pout.

"Horny bastard," she muttered under her breath, low enough that a normal human wouldn't have picked it up.

Unfortunately for her, Clark possessed hearing that could pick up a whisper across five city blocks.

Without missing a beat or breaking his relaxed stride, his hand dropped slightly and delivered a sharp, mischievous pinch to her left buttock.

"Eeepp!"

Lana squeaked, jumping half an inch into the air as a deep crimson blush instantly spread across her cheeks up to the tips of her ears. She whirled her head toward Clark, glaring daggers at him.

Clark merely kept walking, looking up at the sky with an expression of pure, saintly innocence, as if he were entirely incapable of such petty villainy.

"Is everything alright, Lana?" Violet asked, halting her steps and turning around in concern at the sudden noise.

"N-No! I mean—yes! Everything is completely fine. Just... a minor cramp," Lana stammered out, forcing a stiff, cheerful smile while casting another death glare at her boyfriend, who was currently humming a nameless tune under his breath.

Violet blinked, gave a mild shrug, and turned back around while Dash waved his arms forward to keep the group moving. "Come on, it's just right around the corner!"

A minute later, the group pulled up in front of a stunning, split-level suburban home.

It was the picture-perfect blend of suburban luxury and welcoming charm—warm earth tones, impeccably manicured shrubbery, and architectural flourishes that subtly screamed high-income bracket without feeling obnoxious.

As they walked up the paved driveway, Clark's enhanced hearing picked up rhythmic, upbeat music vibrating faintly from within the house—the kind of high-tempo synth beat typical of routine athletic training or modern hip-hop choreography.

Violet stepped onto the front porch and pressed the doorbell. A crisp, pleasant chime echoed through the foyer.

"Coming! Just a second!" a clear, feminine voice shouted from somewhere deep inside the residence.

Heavy, quick footsteps approached the door before the lock clicked, and the front door swung wide open to reveal a striking red-headed girl.

Clark had to exert every ounce of his Kryptonian self-control to keep from bursting out laughing right then and there. Another red-head? he thought, thoroughly bewildered by the odds. What was the ratio of redheads in San Francisco? Did the universe have a specific color palette in mind for his new neighborhood?

Out of the corner of his eye, he glanced at Lana. Her expression had completely crumpled into a face that looked like she had just swallowed a whole lemon.

Clark swallowed his chuckles, feeling a faint wave of sympathy for his girlfriend's suffering.

The girl standing in the entryway was roughly their age, her bright orange-red hair secured into a practical, high ponytail. Piercing emerald-green eyes, lightly sun-kissed skin, and a thin sheen of sweat gave her an undeniably radiant, athletic glow.

She wore a form-fitting light green workout tank top, athletic shorts, and a thin white zip-up sweater draped loosely over her shoulders.

Her toned midriff and defined arms made one thing abundantly clear: this girl was an absolute powerhouse of physical discipline.

"Vi! It is so good to see you, girl!" Kim beamed, instantly stepping forward and pulling Violet into a brief, warm hug.

"Haha, hey Kim!" Violet laughed, returning the embrace warmly.

Kim pulled back, her eyes landing on Dash. In a flash, she snatched the younger boy into a suffocating, playful headlock, ruffling his meticulously styled hair with her knuckles. "And how's my favorite hyperactive neighbor doing?"

"Agh! Hey! Stop, Kim! The hair! It took me twenty whole minutes to style this!" Dash protested loudly, swatting her arms away as he frantically tried to smooth his locks back into place.

Violet rolled her eyes so hard at her brother that it looked almost painful.

Laughing off Dash's protests, Kim turned her gaze toward the two unfamiliar faces standing on her porch.

The moment her emerald eyes locked onto Clark—taking in his towering height, broad chest, effortlessly relaxed posture, long dark hair tied neatly back, and striking features—her brain effectively hit a hard system reboot.

Holy moly... Kim thought, frozen mid-motion.

Clark offered her a soft, devastatingly handsome smirk. Lana, on the other hand, felt her internal annoyance meter slam right into the red. She ran a hand through her hair, contemplating the absolute impossibility of trying to keep this walking magnet of a boyfriend away from every attractive female within a ten-mile radius.

"Hello? Earth to Kimberly," Violet said playfully, waving a hand in front of her friend's face.

Kim blinked rapidly, her cheeks instantly catching fire as she snapped back to reality. "Oh! Right! Wow, I am so sorry! Standing on the porch, not even inviting you inside—where are my manners?"

She took a quick step forward, extending a firm hand toward Clark. "Hi! I'm Kimberly Possible. But, uh, everyone calls me Kim. Really. Kim is fine."

Clark reached out, wrapping his hand around hers in a gentle yet solid grip. "Clark Kent. It's a pleasure to meet you, Kim."

He accompanied the introduction with a warm, genuine smile that caused Kim's grip to linger a few seconds longer than strictly necessary.

"Ahem! Cough, cough!"

Lana let out a series of surprisingly loud, exaggerated coughs from the side, crossing her arms over her chest.

Realizing she was practically holding Clark's hand hostage, Kim snapped her hand back like she had touched a hot stove, scratching the back of her neck nervously. "Right! Sorry! Sweaty hands, workout routine... you know how it is."

She quickly pivoted toward Lana, extending her hand again. "And you must be..."

"Lana. Lana Lang," Lana replied, offering a polite, albeit slightly competitive, smile as she shook Kim's hand. "Nice to meet you, Kim."

"Come on in, guys! Let me grab some drinks," Kim said, stepping aside to usher the group into her home.
