Chapter 34 - Chapter 34:Battle with snakes

The forest had gone dim beneath the woven canopy.

Broken branches, churned soil, and fallen Root operatives littered the clearing.

But five remained.

Elite.

Unshaken.

They adjusted formation instantly, triangular assault vectors, one high, two mid, two suppressing from distance.

Kyro exhaled slowly.

"Miku."

She didn't respond with words.

She moved.

Combo: Praying Strikes

Miku blurred forward first, not fast in a straight line, but unpredictably fluid. Her body dipped low, then rose in a spiraling arc, palm glowing emerald .

A Root shinobi lunged

Her palm met his sternum.

Not a heavy impact.

A precise one.

A second later

Kyro appeared at the exact same angle, Voidstep aligning with her vector.

His palm struck the same point.

The combined impact detonated like compressed thunder.

The operative's armor shattered inward, ribs collapsing from the doubled force.

Before the body even hit the ground

They had already shifted targets.

Kyro inhaled sharply and released a controlled burst from his core.

Three afterimages split from his movement

But this time, they didn't fade.

They solidified.

Not full clones.

But mana constructs layered over residual motion patterns.

Root's suppressor tags activated

And passed straight through the afterimages as if unsure what they were targeting.

Two operatives struck simultaneously at separate Kyros

Only for the afterimages to block.

Tangible.

Briefly.

One clone intercepted a blade and twisted just enough to redirect it.

The real Kyro emerged from blind angle and executed Ascending Fang.

The upward arc cleaved through mask and collarbone in one fluid motion.

Another afterimage stepped through a Root shinobi's guard

And shattered on impact

Releasing a concussive mana pulse that destabilized the target's footing.

Miku capitalized instantly.

The ground beneath him hardened upward into a spear of wood-like earth, impaling through his thigh and pinning him to a tree.

She tilted her head slightly.

"Two left."

The remaining two Root elites moved together, disciplined, deadly.

One activated a paralysis seal mid-air.

The other unleashed a compressed Wind Release blade.

Kyro didn't dodge.

He advanced.

Dragon Furnace ignited further, not fully unleashed, but enough to flood his muscles with refined output.

The wind blade struck his reinforced forearm

And split.

Not deflected.

Overpowered.

He entered Shadowrush, layering micro-Voidsteps inside the dash.

He didn't blur.

He fragmented.

Appearing in overlapping sequences of motion that made prediction impossible.

The paralysis seal brushed his shoulder

Dragon Furnace flared.

The foreign chakra began breaking down on contact, refined into raw mana fuel.

Orochimaru's eyes sharpened in the distance.

"…He's metabolizing it."

Kyro closed distance.

Whirlwind Slash

But now fully infused.

The arc of his blade didn't just cut air.

It distorted pressure.

The first elite's torso separated cleanly before he realized the strike had landed.

The final Root shinobi pivoted to retreat

Miku snapped her fingers.

The terrain folded.

Not illusion.

Not fully earth release.

The space beneath his step tilted unnaturally.

His center of gravity collapsed sideways,

Kyro was already there.

A full-strength mana-reinforced punch struck center mass.

The impact cracked the surrounding trees in a shockwave ring.

Silence followed.

Five bodies down.

Steam rising from fractured earth.

Kyro stood breathing steadily now not winded, but alert.

Very alert.

Because he felt it.

A presence.

Cold.

Patient.

Watching.

From the tree line, Orochimaru stepped forward slowly, applauding softly.

"How exquisite."

The remaining Root operatives withdrew into shadows behind him, wounded and shaken.

Orochimaru's golden eyes scanned the battlefield.

"Mana constructs. Spatial displacement. Environmental dominion…"

His tongue flicked subtly.

"You are far more interesting than I anticipated."

Kyro rolled his shoulders slightly, blade lowering but not sheathing.

Dragon Furnace hummed low inside his chest.

He could sense it now

Orochimaru wasn't fighting seriously yet.

There was something beneath his chakra signature.

Prepared.

Layered.

Hidden.

Poison perhaps.

Or a sealing array primed to activate.

Kyro's core rotated faster instinctively.

Miku floated slightly behind him, aura flaring in response.

Orochimaru smiled thinly.

"Let us see… how you respond to something designed specifically for you."

The forest air shifted.

Subtle.

Chemical.

Kyro's eyes narrowed.

He didn't attack first.

Not yet.

Because whatever Orochimaru had prepared

It wasn't meant for a shinobi.

It was meant for him.

And that meant the real fight…

Was about to begin.

The forest stilled.

Orochimaru's smile didn't widen.

It sharpened.

He pressed two fingers together and murmured something too low for Root to hear.

The ground beneath Kyro's feet ignited with pale markings.

Not chakra threads.

Not standard fuinjutsu.

A layered sealing matrix... circular, geometric, spiraling outward in overlapping rings.

It didn't suppress.

It interfered.

Miku gasped mid-air as emerald light flickered violently around her.

"Kyro.. !"

The seal pulsed once.

Her form destabilized.

Not dispelled.

Disrupted.

The system tether reacted automatically... defensive protocol overriding her presence in the material plane.

In a shimmer of fractured green light

She vanished.

Silence.

Kyro's jaw tightened.

Orochimaru's tongue slid across his lips slowly.

"External entity severed," he murmured with satisfaction. "How unfortunate."

Kyro's expression darkened.

This wasn't panic.

It was recalculation.

Fine.

He inhaled.

Dragon Furnace... deeper ignition.

Mana surged outward violently, pushing against the edges of the sealing matrix. The symbols flickered under pressure.

"You prepared something specific," Kyro said calmly.

Orochimaru's golden eyes gleamed.

"Of course."

Kyro's mana spiked.

His pupils thinned vertically.

Faint scales traced along his cheekbones.

A subtle ridge formed along his brow.

Borrowed power.

Dreadbringer's presence stirred like a distant storm.

The temperature rose instantly.

Kyro lifted one hand

And unleashed.

Multiple compressed spheres of violet-red flame shot forward like artillery rounds.

Not chakra fire.

Refined mana combustion.

They tore through the air at near-invisible velocity.

Orochimaru's eyes widened slightly.

He vanished

Voidstep.

No.

Body Flicker combined with substitution.

One fireball detonated against a tree line, vaporizing three trunks instantly.

Two more curved mid-flight, guided by mana perception.

Orochimaru reappeared to the side...

Only for Kyro to already be moving.

Voidstep.

He intercepted mid-transition.

Blade descended in a spiraling arc infused with spatial distortion.

Orochimaru substituted at the final millisecond

The slash carved a crater through solid earth, splitting the sealing array's outer ring.

The forest groaned under the force.

Then

A presence behind him.

A kunai thrust toward his spine.

Clean.

Precise.

Kyro didn't turn.

The blade struck.

And snapped.

Dragon-scale mana reinforcement hardened across his back in an instant.

Orochimaru's eyes widened briefly.

Kyro's heel lashed backward

A mana-enhanced back kick.

It connected square with Orochimaru's chest.

The impact thundered.

Three trees shattered as Orochimaru's body tore through them before crashing into the ground.

Dust rose.

Silence lingered.

Then

A low chuckle from within the debris.

Orochimaru stood slowly.

Blood at the corner of his mouth.

Ribs visibly misaligned beneath torn clothing.

"…Excellent."

He wiped the blood with his thumb and examined it thoughtfully.

Then he flicked his wrist.

Vials shattered at his feet.

A vapor spread instantly.

Colorless.

Odorless.

Kyro felt it before he smelled anything.

Dragon Furnace flared

But this poison was different.

Engineered.

It didn't attack tissue first.

It targeted energy flow.

His mana circulation slowed.

Regeneration dulled.

Breathing grew heavier.

Not paralysis.

Suppression.

Orochimaru stepped forward calmly, bones audibly shifting back into place.

"Custom blend," he explained conversationally. "Designed to destabilize foreign energy systems."

Kyro rolled his shoulders.

The serum-enhanced physiology fought back.

Mana continued purging slowly, burning the toxin down piece by piece.

But it cost stamina.

Speed dipped slightly.

Not dramatically

But enough.

Orochimaru unsheathed the Kusanagi.

The blade gleamed unnaturally long, extending with a metallic hiss.

"This," Orochimaru said softly, "will be far more educational."

Kyro exhaled slowly.

Dragon traits deepened slightly along his jawline.

Mana pulsed harder.

Voidstep range tightened.

Fine.

He'd adapt.

Orochimaru lunged first.

Kusanagi extended like a serpent strike.

Kyro twisted aside

The blade extended further mid-thrust, slicing across his ribs.

Blood sprayed.

Not deep.

But precise.

Orochimaru withdrew instantly, reappearing at distance with unnatural flexibility.

He was faster now.

More serious.

Kyro stepped forward instead of retreating.

Dragon Furnace pulsed harder.

Each breath burned hotter.

Mana began overwhelming the poison's suppressive rhythm.

The ground cracked under his foot.

Voidstep.

He appeared above Orochimaru

Descending slash infused with full-force reinforcement.

Orochimaru parried

The shockwave split the ground between them in a jagged trench.

Both landed simultaneously.

Both breathing slightly heavier now.

No smiles.

No analysis.

Just predators.

The sealing matrix flickered unstable from the collateral damage.

Miku remained forced out.

Root stayed back, watching in stunned silence.

And in the center of the ruined clearing

Kusanagi gleamed.

Dragon mana flared.

The real battle had begun.
