Shunsui's lazy smile faded instantly as he heard the names of his team members. 'I traded one loudmouth for an even bigger loudmouth,' he thought with deep despair.
'Obito is annoying with his constant talking and yelling about becoming Hokage just like Naruto. But Guy? Guy would be on another level. He will probably wake me up at dawn every day for "youthful training sessions." '
'He will make me run laps until my legs fall off, all while shouting about the springtime of youth. And he will never stop. Never. I might actually die from exhaustion before any enemy gets me. This is worse than being on Obito's team. At least Obito gets tired sometimes. Guy runs on pure endless energy. What kind of cruel joke is this universe playing on me?'
Still, a small bright side appeared in his mind. Guy was a nice guy and might be considered his friend. Genma was also a quiet one so that was a plus.
'At least I will get a lot of food to eat in this genin team with an Akimichi sensei,' he reasoned. 'He is even the next clan head, so that means a lot of free food. The Akimichi clan owns most of the restaurants in the Land of Fire and half of Konoha so I might even get large discounts.'
He felt a little better about the safety part too. 'Besides, I do not have to worry much about my safety,' he thought.
'Choza is a strong sensei. Might be the strongest in the current Ino-Shika-Cho trio of this generation. He can expand his body to giant size, punch through mountains, and probably wrestle a tailed beast for a few minutes if he really tries. With him around, enemies will think twice before attacking.'
Their sensei arrived a moment later. Choza Akimichi stepped into the classroom like a walking mountain of muscle and fat.
To Shunsui, he looked like a very large, very round man who clearly enjoyed his clan's cooking a little too much. Shunsui wisely kept that observation to himself.
Saying something like "You look like you ate three buffets for breakfast and you are very fat" to his new jonin sensei on the first day seemed like a bad idea. Instead, he just tilted his hat politely in a greeting.
Choza looked at the three genin and gave a slow nod. "With me, Team 10."
The three boys stood up. Guy immediately pumped his fist in the air. "Yosh! Let us go, my youthful comrades! We must follow our youthful sensei with the burning flames of youth in our hearts! Today marks the beginning of our glorious journey as shinobi! Sensei, lead the way to greatness! I am ready to give one thousand percent!"
He turned to Shunsui and Genma with sparkling eyes. "Come on, friends! We will become the strongest team Konoha has ever seen!"
Shunsui sighed deeply and adjusted his straw hat. 'This is going to be so much of a drag,' he thought. 'This is going to get annoying soon. In fact, it's already annoying. I swear if he says Youth one more time, I might just snap. What's wrong with being old anyways?'
They followed Choza out of the academy and through the village streets. People moved aside as the large man walked, giving respectful nods to the Akimichi clan head.
The three genin trailed behind. Guy kept doing small jumps and shadow kicks while walking. Genma stayed silent, just chewing on his senbon. Shunsui walked slowest, hands in his sleeves, enjoying the shade from his hat.
No one spoke anything during the walk. Not even their sensei.
They reached one of the quieter training grounds on the edge of the village. Tall trees surrounded the open field, and a small stream ran nearby. Choza stopped in the center and turned to face them.
"I am Akimichi Choza," he said in a deep, calm voice. "I might be your future jonin sensei."
Genma raised an eyebrow. "Might?"
Choza nodded seriously. "Well, you have to pass another test to become proper genin."
'So even during wars, We have to take the genin test. Huh. Konoha is consistent in at least one thing. And he is not doing the introduction thing either. At least, he is waiting for us to pass before we introduce ourselves.' Shunsui thought
Genma tilted his head. "Otherwise we go back to the academy?"
"No," Choza answered with a hint of sadness in his tone. "You would become part of the genin corps. We are in need of every shinobi, even genin, during this period. So we cannot send you back to the academy. The war does not wait."
Guy's eyes lit up even brighter. "What is the test, sensei? Tell us! I am prepared for anything!"
Choza crossed his massive arms. "You will fight against me. There are no clear objectives for the test. I will just test your ability as well as your teamwork. If you meet the standards, I will be your jonin sensei. Otherwise, I will be assigned to another team. Jonins are highly valuable during the war, so they are limited right now."
The three genin stood in silence for a moment, taking in the words. Shunsui looked at the huge man in front of them and felt a tiny spark of interest under his laziness.
'A fight against an Akimichi clan head. This might actually be interesting.' He thought as he knew that he would finally get a chance to use his Zanpaktou and it's shikai in a real fight.
