Chapter 96 - Chapter 96: I’ve Only Ever Had One Way of Dealing with Traitors

Just as Alex had expected, at this moment Invisible Man was hiding in a shop 7 kilometers away from the "Nightfall" motel.

The shop, built along the interstate highway, had already been abandoned. Invisible Man planned to hide here until nightfall, then slip away under the cover of darkness.

He did not dare use any vehicle, worried that highway surveillance cameras might catch him.

If a driverless car were captured on camera, that would basically expose his whereabouts.

Just then, he heard a massive noise. Then he saw flames rising in the distance. Somewhere, something had exploded.

Not long after, he saw a golden laser blast down from the sky, followed by a violent explosion.

The shockwave from the blast made the windows of the shop where he was hiding rattle loudly.

Invisible Man's scalp went numb.

"He's here!"

"Homelander really came!"

He felt like crying. It looked like Homelander was destroying buildings on the ground, clearly trying to force him out.

"It's fine."

"My skin is made of carbon metamaterial. Even if Homelander's laser hits me, I won't die."

He tried to comfort himself and even thought about hiding inside a refrigerator.

Then he jumped up again.

"Even if I don't die, that demon can still scan me!"

After thinking it over, Invisible Man chose to leave.

He ran onto the interstate highway.

———

Up in midair—

Based on the information provided by Annika, Alex located one building after another.

He scanned each one. If he found no one inside, he used his heat vision to destroy it.

After the explosion effect of heat vision was upgraded to a large-scale blast, simply releasing its energy would create an explosion comparable to a ground-attack missile.

The large-scale blast that could easily demolish high-rise buildings was naturally more than enough to flatten these abandoned warehouses and similar structures.

And this was without Alex using heat vision at full power. If he did, the explosion effect alone might be enough to level the entire city of New York.

After destroying another building, looking down from the sky, within a 10-kilometer radius of Highway 95, flames flickered and thick smoke billowed.

It looked as if the area had been precisely bombed. The air was filled with a choking smell.

As Alex scanned the surroundings, he suddenly heard the roar of a car engine. He quickly spotted a vehicle speeding wildly along Highway 95.

Alex burst out laughing and gave chase. With his speed, he naturally caught up with the car in an instant.

He overtook it and landed on the road ahead.

At that moment, Alex saw that the driver was a young girl.

Beside her sat Invisible Man, completely naked.

"Tsk! A real pervert, as expected."

Alex narrowed his eyes slightly and heard Invisible Man shouting inside the car, "If you don't want to die, keep driving! Don't stop!"

It was obvious that Invisible Man had hijacked the girl.

Then he heard Invisible Man yell again, "Move aside, Homelander!"

"If you don't want this girl to die, leave!"

"Otherwise I'll kill her!"

Alex shook his head, floated into the air, and his eyes lit up.

Two golden beams shot out, slicing across the car.

The vehicle was instantly cut in half. Alex rushed forward just as the fuel tank ignited and exploded.

BOOM!

Amid the violent explosion, Invisible Man was thrown out of the car, rolling hundreds of meters before finally coming to a stop.

He coughed a few times, shaking his head, "That damn demon. He doesn't even care about the hostage's life!"

Earlier, after realizing it would be hard to shake off Alex, Invisible Man had taken the risk of running to a nearby gas station and hijacking a girl who happened to be refueling there.

That way, even if Homelander found him, he could use the girl as leverage.

But he had not expected Alex to refuse negotiation and fire a laser without hesitation.

Invisible Man stood up. A sound came from behind him. He whipped his head around and saw Alex, dressed in black combat gear, descending from the sky.

Alex was holding the girl he had just rescued from the car.

He might not accept threats or negotiation, but he would not ignore the life of a stranger.

So before the explosion, he had rushed into the car and used his biological force field to protect the girl.

She had only fainted from fright.

Alex gently laid her on the grass, then walked toward Invisible Man with a smile, "You'd better turn invisible. Otherwise you're not exactly decent to look at."

Invisible Man vanished into thin air and sprinted to the left. Suddenly golden light flashed before him, and he was blasted away by heat vision.

He hit the ground, reappearing, and raised his hands, "I surrender!"

"Don't kill me, Homelander."

"That wasn't my idea."

Alex walked over unhurriedly, chuckling, "Looks like you know why I'm here."

"You also know Edgar had the superpower suppressant. But I'm curious. I remember when I told you to monitor Edgar, I specifically instructed you to report any movement from him."

"So can you explain this?"

Invisible Man quickly said, "Edgar realized early on that I was watching him, so I didn't know anything about any suppressant."

Alex shook his head, "You don't seriously think I'd believe that nonsense, do you?"

"You didn't know about the suppressant, didn't know Edgar wanted to kill me. Then what are you doing in Florida?"

Invisible Man had no answer.

Alex clapped his hands once, "Forget it. I'm too lazy to waste words with you."

"Since you betrayed me, there's nothing more to say."

Invisible Man suddenly jumped up and shouted, "You think I wanted to do this?"

"It was you!"

"You forced me!"

"The Deep only reported your situation to Edgar, and you killed him!"

"How do I know I wouldn't be killed by you one day over something trivial, you tyrant!"

"If that's the case, why can't I betray you? I did nothing wrong! I did nothing wrong!"

Alex smiled brightly, "See? That's better. You should've said that from the start."

"Hmm! It does make a bit of sense."

"So you were just scared."

"You're right. You really didn't do anything wrong. If it were me, I might've done the same."

Invisible Man froze, then cautiously asked, "Then… can you forgive me this once?"

"I promise I won't do something this stupid again."

Alex laughed, "How could that be? You didn't do anything wrong, sure. But you did betray me."

"And when it comes to traitors, I've only ever had one way of dealing with them."

Then Alex spat out a single word, killing intent surging in his voice.

"Die."

Invisible Man's whole body trembled. Then he gritted his teeth and said, "Then go ahead and try, Homelander. Don't forget, my skin is harder than diamond. Even your laser might not be able to kill me!"
