Chapter 97 - Chapter 97: Squeezing Out Toothpaste

"Wow! Harder than diamond, huh? Your skin really is impressive. You can turn invisible, and you're bulletproof. I bet if I peeled it off and made a bulletproof vest, it'd be pretty nice."

After saying that, Alex waved a hand before Invisible Man could react and added with a bright smile, "Relax, I'm kidding. I'm not interested in using your skin for a vest. That's way too twisted."

"Just thinking about wearing a man on my body makes my stomach turn."

Invisible Man's expression turned complicated.

The smile slowly faded from Alex's face.

"But, buddy."

"Your skin might be tough, but that's exactly where your weakness lies."

"After all, it's only your skin that's hard. Everything inside you is still soft."

"Honestly, even an ordinary person with a bit of brains, as long as they're not scared out of their wits by you, could figure out a way to kill you."

"As for me?"

Alex's eyes lit up, and two beams slammed into Invisible Man's chest.

Invisible Man let out a scream at once.

Though the beams did not slice through his skin, the intense heat inside them caused him terrible pain.

Fortunately, Homelander's laser stopped for the moment.

Invisible Man dropped to his knees, gasping for breath, sweat pouring down like rain.

Alex's voice came from above his head.

"Get it now?"

"Your skin can block my beams, but it can't block the extreme heat inside them. I can keep heating your body until every organ inside you melts."

"Besides, I really doubt there's any material on Earth that can withstand a hundred thousand degrees of heat. Your skin probably can't either, right?"

Of course, if he really pushed his heat vision to the limit, Alex suspected he might burn the entire state of Florida to ashes.

For just one Invisible Man? Not worth it. Not at all.

Invisible Man looked up again, his eyes filled with fear. He lunged forward and hugged Alex's leg.

"Homelander, please give me one more chance!"

"I swear I'll never betray you again!"

"I'll be your most loyal servant. I'll help you uncover every secret in this world."

"Right!"

"The Department of Defense!"

"I can infiltrate the Department of Defense. If those politicians plan anything against you, I'll tell you immediately!"

Alex kicked him away with a look of disgust, "First, the Department of Defense, or rather the entire Federation, is definitely plotting against me."

"No one wants to see an uncontrolled humanoid nuclear bomb flying around. That includes me."

"So sooner or later, the Federation and I will turn against each other. Just not now."

"Second, betrayal isn't something that happens once. If it happens once, then it will happen countless times. And you've already betrayed me." [T/N: Finally, some sense.]

"So go on. Run."

Seeing the cat-and-mouse smile on Homelander's face, Invisible Man fell into complete despair. He knew no matter what he said, Homelander would not let him go.

He shouted and turned to run.

But after only a few dozen meters, a rush of wind came from behind him. Then he felt his neck tighten. Alex had already grabbed him and shot straight up into the sky at high speed.

The rapid ascent left Invisible Man unable to catch his breath, and he passed out.

Only then did Alex cover him with a biological force field and carry him away.

.

.

.

Who knew how long passed before Invisible Man suddenly shuddered and woke up.

A bucket of cold water had been dumped on him.

Then he realized he was fixed against a massive steel plate. He saw Alex toss aside an empty bucket and clap his hands as he walked away.

"What are you doing!"

"Homelander!"

"Please let me go!"

Invisible Man struggled, but what held him in place were steel bars, not ropes.

He could turn invisible, and his skin was bulletproof, but he did not have the strength to break steel bars.

Then he saw Alex climb into a road roller. Invisible Man's face turned green.

He had a rough idea what Alex intended to do.

"No! No! No! No!"

Invisible Man screamed, "Please don't do this to me! God, make him stop!"

Alex stuck his head out from the driver's cabin of the road roller, glanced at the sky, and said to Invisible Man with a bright smile, "Looks like your God didn't show up for work today."

Then he started the machine. The road roller roared to life and slowly moved toward Invisible Man.

Tears streamed from Invisible Man's eyes, "Please don't do this. I have a son. Spare me!"

The heavy road roller did not slow down. Thick black smoke puffed from its exhaust.

"Stop, you lunatic!"

"Homelander, you're a devil!"

"I curse you to hell, AHHHHHH!"

When the massive metal drum rolled over Invisible Man's feet, a piercing scream echoed across the deserted construction site.

His chest heaved violently. The fear of death sent his adrenaline surging. He tried to resist the crushing force, but it was useless.

After his feet were completely flattened, the roller moved on to his waist, then his chest.

Finally, in his vision, he saw a mud-stained metal drum.

That was the last thing he ever saw.

The road roller gave a slight shake and came to a stop.

Alex glanced back. Invisible Man lay on the ground, his body flattened.

Alex shook his head, flew into the air, and used heat vision to melt the steel plate beneath Invisible Man, letting molten metal swallow the corpse.

After finishing all that, he left the scene.

[Department of Defense]

Dr. Kyle, authorized to study the mutated residents of Sylvester Town, hurried down a corridor. The brown hair on his head was damp with sweat and stuck to his forehead, but the light flickering in his electronic eye was still unsettling.

The staff members passing in the corridor lowered their heads subconsciously, not daring to look at the doctor directly, afraid they might end up as experimental subjects. They quickened their pace and left.

The doctor pushed open a door and entered a room where he saw the Secretary.

The Secretary seemed to be speaking with someone. It was an old man with graying hair and a stern face that showed no smile.

The Secretary introduced, "Dr. Kyle, look who's here."

"This is Dr. Vogelbaum."

"He is Homelander's 'father' and his creator!"

Kyle paused for two seconds before nodding, "I know who he is."

"I just don't know why Dr. Vogelbaum is here."

The Secretary smiled broadly, "The reason is simple. We just received news that Vought's president Edgar was killed by Homelander."

"Dr. Vogelbaum is worried that that madman might harm him, so he's seeking our protection."

"He's willing to provide the formula for Compound Five, so I thought perhaps the two of you could join forces."

"As for dealing with Homelander, it will depend on you."
