"Cough! Cough!"
Bruce coughed a few times, lifted his cape, and looked outside.
In front of him, Wonder Woman had stood up. A shield had appeared in her hand.
If Wonder Woman hadn't blocked the shockwave just now, Bruce suspected he might already be in heaven.
Batman glanced behind him. Behind him stood only a single lonely building.
All the other buildings had turned into ruins. The devastated land made it hard for him to believe this place had once been the prosperous Metropolis.
"Thank you."
Bruce's voice was hoarse.
Wonder Woman shook her head, then looked toward the figure in the distant sandstorm, anger flickering in her eyes.
The last time she had been this angry was during World War I.
Letting out a snort, Wonder Woman rushed toward that figure.
Alex floated in midair, letting the wind and sand pass by his side. Looking down at the earth, he could see that inside the massive crater below, Doomsday had already turned into lumps of minced flesh.
But those chunks of flesh were still moving, seeking to merge and regenerate.
That was Doomsday, a biological weapon that was almost impossible to kill.
Suddenly, Alex felt his arms tighten. It turned out he had been bound by the Lasso of Truth.
He turned his head and saw Wonder Woman standing on the ground.
"Lady, I didn't realize you were into bondage"
Alex's gaze swept back and forth across Wonder Woman.
"You're really attractive."
"Among the women I know, you're the most charming one."
"Conquering a woman like you must be every man's dream."
"That must feel pretty satisfying, right?"
"Oh? I actually said what was on my mind."
"The Lasso of Truth really lives up to its name."
Wonder Woman said in a deep voice, "You've gone too far."
"Although today is a day off, and there weren't many people in the city center, and the army had already evacuated people earlier."
"But with that punch just now, you destroyed half the city. Do you know how many people could die because of that?"
Alex nodded, "So, you're planning to judge me?"
"But I should remind you, the thing down there isn't dead yet."
Wonder Woman said, "It's fine. If it climbs up again, I'll deal with it."
"It's probably a monster beyond your imagination."
Wonder Woman smiled faintly, "I've slain plenty of monsters."
"Now, you're another one."
She drew a long sword from behind her. Runes faintly appeared on the blade, radiating a divine aura and pressure like that of a god.
The God-Killer Sword!
Diana suddenly yanked the Lasso of Truth, pulling Alex toward her while raising the divine sword high, about to split him in two.
Alex smiled. His eyes suddenly lit up, blasting out a stream of scorching golden light.
Wonder Woman quickly used the God-Killer Sword to block the beam, but she felt the temperature of the blade rising higher and higher.
At the same time, the temperature of the space around her was rapidly increasing.
At first it was two thousand degrees. Then six thousand. Immediately after that it jumped to ten thousand.
Beneath Diana's feet, the ground had already begun to melt, like ice and snow under direct sunlight.
The next second, that beam suddenly expanded, followed by a world-shaking explosion.
In the distance, Batman quickly used his grappling gun, hooking a window on the second floor of the building behind him and pulling himself inside.
The moment he rolled through the window, blazing flames burst in from above his head. The high-temperature fire instantly warped the window, the metal parts melted into streams of molten iron, and the walls began glowing red. The molecular structure of the stone was being destroyed under the heat, beginning to carbonize!
Fortunately, the flames only blasted through for two seconds before stopping. But whether it was the walls or the floor, the temperature was now astonishing, thin smoke rising everywhere.
Bruce hurried out of the building. He saw that the entire side of the building that had faced Alex earlier had been scorched black.
The building swayed back and forth as if it might collapse at any moment.
On the other side, Diana lowered the God-Killer Sword. The red glow on the divine blade was fading, slowly disappearing.
Suddenly, from the thick smoke ahead, a figure slammed toward her. Diana quickly lowered her head to dodge it, then swung the Lasso of Truth and hurled Alex away.
Alex flew a thousand meters before stopping in midair. He was just about to go over and get close to Wonder Woman again.
Suddenly, lightning flickered at the corner of his eye. He looked toward the earlier crater. Thick smoke was rolling there, golden lightning writhing wildly, flashing one after another.
Roars echoed from the depths of the crater. Alex's eyes lit up, firing golden beams into the crater, then sweeping sideways, blasting out a gust that blew away the thick smoke.
As a result, they could see that inside the crater, a mass of flesh cocoon was wriggling. Then a hand tore the cocoon open, and the reborn Doomsday crawled out from inside.
This monster had become even stronger. Its height exceeded four meters. Lightning coiled around its entire body, its eyes blazing as if endless energy was surging inside them.
Then bone spikes thrust out from its back and from different parts of its body.
With a roar from Doomsday, a shockwave like an electromagnetic pulse appeared again, pushing both Alex and Wonder Woman away.
Doomsday slightly lowered its center of gravity and suddenly leaped, jumping high into the sky before crashing down onto the distant ground. Like a meteor striking the moon, it smashed up waves of stone.
Wonder Woman looked at Doomsday in disbelief. She could clearly feel just how powerful that monster was.
At that moment, a voice sounded above her head.
"Well? I didn't lie to you."
"This monster isn't simple."
Diana looked up and saw Alex land beside her. She said in a deep voice, "What exactly are you trying to do?"
Alex pointed at Doomsday, "I'm going to kill it."
Wonder Woman didn't believe him, "Then why didn't you kill it earlier?"
"If I acted earlier, there'd be no challenge. Wouldn't that be boring?", Alex smiled.
"Madman!", Diana shook her head.
At that moment Batman landed on Alex's other side and said, "So what do we do now?"
Alex floated slightly off the ground and said, "You two draw its attention. I'll finish it."
Then he rose into the air and flew toward Doomsday.
Wonder Woman shook her head and said to Batman, "I don't trust him."
After saying that, she moved her long legs and sprinted across the ground.
Bruce said in a deep voice, "Neither do I. But right now, do we have any other choice?"
He glanced at the sky.
"God is no longer willing to save us."
"So we can only rely on ourselves!"
———
Inside a hotel far from the center of Metropolis.
Caitlin climbed up from the carpet and sat on a chair, holding her head.
"What just happened?"
"Was that an earthquake?"
"That was way too terrifying."
Just then she heard someone knocking outside the door.
"Is anyone in there?"
"Hurry up, we can't stay here anymore. We need to evacuate."
"Come out quickly. Don't take the elevator, use the fire escape!"
Hearing this, Caitlin quickly stood up and fumbled her way to the door.
"I wonder how Mr. John next door is doing."
"He should be okay, right?"
Caitlin opened the door.
However, outside the door was not the hotel corridor.
Instead, there was a dazzling burst of brilliant, multicolored light.
