Chapter 43
Tori's POV
The moment the guard left the room, silence settled heavily between Nicole and I again, though this time it felt far worse than before.
The council hearing.
Just hearing those words alone made my stomach tighten painfully.
I didn't fully understand how things worked around here yet, but from the look on Nicole's face, I already knew whatever was coming tomorrow wasn't going to be good.
Nicole dragged a hand down his face before pacing slowly across the room. His usual calm expression was gone completely, replaced by visible frustration instead.
"Why do you look so worried?" I finally asked quietly. "What exactly is this hearing about?"
Nicole stopped walking immediately after my question.
For a moment, he didn't answer me. He simply stared at the floor like he was trying to organize his thoughts carefully before speaking.
"That old bastard has been waiting for this opportunity," he muttered eventually.
"Edmund?"
He nodded once.
