Chapter 31: The Nearing of Future.
~~~ [START]
Within a gas station store, Troy walked to the counter and handed an old woman a bag filled with snacks. And his eyes widened when they turned to the price counter after the woman finished scanning.
Everything was 300 dollars, which to him sounded outrageous when considering the cost of living. So, shaking his head, Troy handed over the money without more complaint.
The woman didn't even glance at him after the transaction; she just lifted her newspaper and proceeded with her reading.
Troy exited the store, but nearly stumbled at the sight of a Porsche, which, for some reason, was parked in opposition to the street.
Alice, who was inside her car, exited as Troy approached.
"I swear, you have to be stroking me," Troy said, and Alice giggled. "So, what are you doing here?"
He didn't truly care about the answer, so he turned his eyes left and right, trying to find a taxi.
Alice's hands moved behind her, with her figure lightly shifting forward, and her toes stepping on the ground a tad too much. "I'm your ride."
"What?" Troy asked, brows raised. But Alice walked to the other side of her car, with her eyes still locked onto him, then opened the other door and pointed out, an indication that he should climb in.
He hesitated, but the lack of vehicles coming from either side of the road tarnished it. So, he walked, with his hand slowly trailing on the door, and he got in.
Alice just slammed it shut, then dashed with inhuman speed to the driver's seat, as if oblivious to the fact that the sun hadn't set yet.
Troy didn't even comment on whether he thought the old woman within the store saw her; he just stared at Alice as she started her vehicle and drove.
"Okay, what's this about?" Troy asked, not daring to slump on the seat; she was driving too fast.
A small smile grazed her lips. "What's what?"
Troy sighed while finally leaning backward. Then droplets of rain started falling, slamming against the windscreen, as Alice turned on the wipers.
And Troy noticed how Alice didn't ask for directions to his house; it was as though she knew the exact coordinates.
"So… not going to ask?" Alice said, eyes still darting to the front.
Troy blinked beside her, not because of the question, but because she slightly opened the window, causing a small breeze to bless his eyes. "No."
And even then, she still smiled beside him.
"You?" Troy shot back the same question, and this time her head turned to him.
"How does it work?" She asked, voice soft as though, even if being attentive, she didn't care.
Troy parted his lips for a reply, but much like before, his words took their time to spout an answer.
"I don't know," Troy admitted, with one of his fingers continually tapping his seat. "Girl meets vampire, they have sex, and Girl has baby."
Troy's head then shot to her. "Girl dies after giving birth… the baby killed her."
The sound of Alice's hands lightly clinching on the steering wheel scratched his ears.
"How do you know her?" Troy finally questioned. His words, far colder than her skin.
Alice's smile faded softly. "Visions."
Alice didn't even try to hide it, and the brightening in Troy's eyes shone brighter the more she spoke.
He didn't ask, he didn't even attempt to proceed with another question; he just halted himself.
"Edward reads minds, Jasper controls emotions, and I see visions," Alice continued because of his silence.
Troy, still a bit dazed by her statement, turned his eyes back to the front. They were minutes away from his apartment now, and earlier, Gina and Honey messaged him, saying something along the lines of Gina having to prepare her apartment for the party so they had to leave, and how he should bring the snacks the next night.
"Edward."
Alice raised one of her brows after Troy said the name.
"Can I prevent him from reading my mind?"
The car pulled up to the apartment's driveway.
"You can't," Alice said.
And Troy paused for a moment too much, then he unbuckled his seatbelt and got out.
But what he didn't expect was for Alice to exit the car right after him.
Troy glanced back, frowning when she slowly made her way to his figure, with a smile still spread on the lips.
"What—?"
"Show me around," Alice demanded, walking past him and making her way to the door.
Troy had a certain weakness toward women, so without rushing, he followed behind her.
Oh, how he wished both Honey and Gina were still there so that he had an excuse, but they weren't.
Because like it or not, Fate was near.
