Varney
"Wow…" the red haired senior breathed out while still munching slowly, then his face brightened beautifully just as he scooped another spoonful into his mouth.
"What the—-" he trailed off to munch on the mouthful before facing me. "What the heck did you put in here? Crack? Cause it tastes so fucking good!"
The breath that has been held in my chest this whole while fizzled out on a long exhale.
The food didn't taste horrible.
Phew.
The red haired senior continued to make animated sounds as he kept eating and I felt so flattered, cause no one has ever reacted to my food like this before. It made me feel a pleasant warmth in my chest the more I watched him.
"Does it really taste this good?" One of the seniors demanded as he reached for another plate and two more seniors followed suit. They all tentatively took in tiny bites and again, I found myself holding my breath.
"Wow!" They exclaimed one after the other, just as they began to shove in mouthfuls, their cheeks bulging and their eyes widened in awe. Morris and Finn were frozen in shock as they watched the scene unfold in front of us.
"It really tastes this good?" Morris mumbled quietly from the position he was standing in, sounding shocked out of his mind. Finn made a choked sound, like he was about to pad out.
I felt like grinning at them and telling them that I won, but I didn't think that was necessary. I wasn't that petty.
"Kid, this food is so good," one of the seniors called out and I faced him. He has always finished wolfing down his food.
The rest of the guys nodded fast in agreement.
"Get us more of the food." Another one spoke up and I let out small sound.
"Unfortunately, I only prepared a small portion." I explained, feeling so much pride at the clear fact that they loved my food this much. A few tables that were close to us were looking on curiously and I felt a little shy under the attention.
"You have to definitely make more of this come tomorrow, kid," the red haired senior spoke. He was already done eating and now he was staring at me with so much warmth in his eyes.
"Ah… you see, this kid isn't a chef yet, the boss chef might not allow that—" Morris was still speaking when the red haired senior shot him a sharp look.
"The kid would be allowed to prepare meals for us if we want it. Tell the head chef that. Got it?"
I felt more awed as I watched Morris and Finn walked off as fast as they could, and I could barely contain my grin when I retrieved their empty plates and returned to the kitchen.
I wasn't shocked to meet the chefs all gathered together, talking quietly but they all stoped once i arrived.
I walked past them and dumped the dirty plates, and was about to dish the rest of the food for myself to eat tonight when the chef boss approached me.
"Hey, kid. Heard you were now given official permission to prepare meals here, but I hope you didn't think that meant anything?" He barked sharply. Behind him, stood Morris, fun and the rest of the other chefs. "You'll still be allowed to only use that little corner, and never the main part of the kitchen. This kitchen is my domain and a delusional kid like you won't come and suddenly believe you're better than everyone else."
I let out a small breath as those words washed over me. The chef boss was scowling hard at me and I don't understand why he's so mad right now.
"I don't think I'm better than everyone, sir."
"Good, cause you're not. And your food was probably horrible, you probably used some weird sorcery to make everyone who tries it to fall in love with it. But you must know that potions like that don't work twice, so your horrible cooking skills would be noticed by the seniors by latest tomorrow."
I pursed my lips before sighing out. "Sir, I'll never do something that vile. And I'm just a kid. Hating on me like this might make you go bald fast.
The man's eyes widened just as the others gathered behind him all let out shocked sounds. I offered him a polite grin, having no idea where that comment came from as I quickly dished the rest of my food, then I was gone.
I sighted the rest of my fellow slaves when I returned back to the dining area with my food and approached them fast, sinking into the empty seat there with a long exhale.
"What was all that about with the seniors? We thought you were in trouble." Gregg asked and I rolled my eyes.
"Nah, just them trying my food out and they loved it,"
"Really? You know how to cook?" Jared asked, looking surprised and I nodded, biting back a grin.
"It's what I'm also studying, so…" I trailed off just as I began to eat.
"That's so cool. Maybe now that they love your food, they'd stop harassing you too much." Evan huffed out and I couldn't deny that this particular thought had crossed my mind. As I watched them try and love my food, I wondered if they'd use that to spare me from a lot of dramas that might come up in the future.
I also wondered if I could use this talent of mind to make money here in this school, cause I need money very urgently.
Perhaps now that I'll be getting access into the kitchen, I should be able to make some type of sweets and sell them to the students. Would they buy it? If they will, that should help me make money regularly, then that problem would be automatically solved.
I was distracted from my thoughts by the guys. They were all tired and weren't looking forward to tomorrow morning whereby we'd all have to come out and clean everywhere first before getting to class. And I could relate to all that they were saving, cause my body was still hurting really bad from today's beating.
I also hoped that tomorrow, my horrible roommate wouldn't make use of all the hot water again.
When I returned back to my dorm room that night, the room that I cleaned up this evening till it was spotless, was fully littered. My side of the room was littered too. It was like my roommate took a scissors and snipped papers over everywhere on purpose.
A frustrated groan left my mouth as I flopped over my bed, feeling to tired to do anything tonight. The pain in my ribs has worsened and right now, I need a pain relief and a long sleep.
I turned on my side, then my eyes landed on the blue shirt which belongs to Knot, folded nearly there. My heart instantly accelerated and I reached for it, pulling it into my nose and burying my face in it.
A heartbeat passed, then I realized what I was doing, making me jerk away with a startled gasp while my face reddened in shock.
What the fuck was that?
His shirt still has traces of his scent in it, despite me already washing it.
I took another look at the shirt, wondering when or if I'll ever get to return it before the owner gets his hands on me and snaps my throat.
A knock on my door made me startle and throw the shirt down so fact, like I was doing something completely forbidden. Which made me feel embarrassed as I walked off to answer the door.
I pulled the door open and my stomach twisted at the sight of that senior with face piercings.
"The leader had sent for you, human."
My heart instantly began to pound hard against my ribs.
What could the leader want at such a time?
