Faye Vaughn walked out of the coffee shop, her pretty face expressionless.
'Of course I had to act angry in a situation like that.'
'Otherwise, I'd look like a total pushover.'
Vincent Hawthorne caught up to her. "Audrey, I'm sorry. I apologize on my brother's behalf."
Faye Vaughn kept a straight face, her tone cold. "Lawyer Hawthorne, being your friend is clearly beyond my station. And if we're talking about benefits I've received from you, it would only be the gifts from my streams. But that was a voluntary transaction you made as an adult, and it was fair and legal compensation for my work as a singer."
Vincent Hawthorne listened patiently until she finished, then said gently, "I never thought of it that way. If you really wanted to benefit from me, you should have accepted my offer to sign a record deal."
That would have been the way to name a price.
But she had no desire to debut or become famous.
Faye Vaughn fell silent, lowering her long lashes.
