Wyatt Hawthorne frowned at Faye Vaughn. "What are you afraid of?"
'She looks genuinely terrified. Is she afraid Liam Linden will die?'
'But she's also gripping my arm so tightly, afraid something will happen to me.'
"I'm afraid..."
Before Faye Vaughn could finish, a mechanical voice suddenly blared from loudspeakers all around them—
"I'd advise you all not to make any sudden moves. There are explosives buried right under your feet."
"This entire forest is rigged with bombs. It's just a matter of whether I feel like detonating them."
Faye Vaughn looked up and around, spotting loudspeakers tied to several large trees.
Liam Linden was watching everything from a distance, hidden somewhere.
He had detonated the van remotely to intimidate Wyatt Hawthorne. It was also to prove he had the power to kill them all.
Wyatt Hawthorne narrowed his dark eyes and called out, "What do you want? Name it."
The mechanical voice let out a bizarre laugh. "Your life, of course."
