Full of apology, her voice was soft and gentle, very pleasant to hear.

In truth, he would have agreed whether it was important or not.
Ian Sheffield walked out first. Erin Lowell inclined her head. "I'm sorry, I didn't mean to forget."
Zane Jennings no longer cared that she had forgotten. He was concerned about something else. "This very important matter... are you doing it with him?"
The "him" he was referring to was Ian Sheffield.
"Mm." For some reason, seeing his expression, she was suddenly struck by a sense of guilt. "Sorry, it just slipped my mind."
'If I were doing this important thing by myself today, I would've postponed it. I would've just dropped it entirely.'
'Ian Sheffield is a very busy man, and I already owe him a favor. It wouldn't be right to back out now.'
Without a second thought, she chose to turn Zane down.
Zane Jennings managed a smile. "It's fine."
He didn't let his disappointment show. Around her, he was always humble and deferential.
