The shoot was set in a picturesque ancient city, with the entire location booked out by the production crew. She'd heard there was a lake there and wanted to go see it.
Nancy Warner found a spot and stood there, her shawl fluttering in the wind, her gaze unnaturally vacant.
Poppy waited nearby. "Nancy, the wind is too strong. Let's go inside."
"You go back first." She reached out, took the phone from Poppy's hand, and gave it a little shake. "I'll head back after a quick call."
"No." Poppy stepped back. "I'll keep you company from a distance."
Though she didn't know why, she remembered that Nancy Warner had done foolish things before—more than once.
Nancy Warner paused, her expression turning cold and fierce. "Don't let your imagination run wild. I'll be back in a minute."
After a long moment of hesitation, Poppy retreated to a spot far away, turning her back to her.
