Draven took a step into the room and saw Luna take three steps backward. His green eyes narrowed on her.
"What were you trying to do?" he asked again, quieter this time. Dangerous, because quiet meant he wasn't angry yet. Not really.
His eyes dropped to the table, where the ink bottle had slipped and its contents stained the floor black. Then his gaze shifted back to Luna, who was clutching the note tightly in a firm grip. He didn't reach for it. He didn't need to.
The command in his voice made her tremble. "Give it to me," he ordered in a low voice.
Luna's jaw tightened in response, her grip firm. "N-no."
The words were spoken low, and for a second Luna thought the King had not heard her, until she saw his mouth quirk, not in amusement, but in recognition. The room held its breath, just like hers. And before the King could respond, Luna began to speak.
