"Riven! Riven!" someone called from outside Mrs. Perkins' shop, and the store assistant came outside to check who it was, only to see the elderly woman, Mrs. Perkins, come down from her rundown little car, holding an envelope in her other hand. She headed straight into the shop without looking at the shop assistant, who had come to welcome her.
"Where is Riven?" asked Mrs. Perkins in a shaky voice. The assistant turned to look at her, wondering why the woman was acting this way. He had learned from Mr. Hathor that his mother had gone to the pack house after being called by the king.
"Mr. Hathor must still be taking the measurements of the customer," the man answered, shifting on his feet. "Wait, let me go tell him that you're back," he said, already going to fetch the woman's son, only to be stopped by her.
