Chapter 24 — Eclipse Blood
Hazel didn't sleep again.
The cracked mirror in her room stared back at her like a warning.
Everyone knows something about me.
The words echoed inside her skull.
Kyle knew.
Ryan knew.
Annabelle was hiding something.
Even Klara had been acting strange.
Her chest tightened.
"No more," she whispered.
She grabbed her coat.
If there were answers — she would get them herself.
She didn't go to Kyle.
She didn't go home.
She went to the only place that seemed to be at the center of everything.
The Smith's Company.
The building stood tall and cold against the night sky.
Power radiated from it.
Hazel stepped inside.
The receptionist froze.
Before she could speak, the elevator doors opened on their own.
Top floor.
Inviting her.
Or summoning her.
Hazel stepped in.
The doors closed.
The temperature dropped.
Upstairs, Ryan was already waiting.
He stood near the window, hands behind his back.
Calm.
Too calm.
He felt her before she entered.
Ralph remained silent.
But Venom stirred.
She comes to us.
Blade hummed low and satisfied.
Finally.
The elevator doors opened.
Hazel stepped out.
Her eyes met his.
And the air shifted.
"You knew," she said immediately.
No greeting.
No hesitation.
Ryan didn't deny it.
"Yes."
Her hands trembled — not weak.
Angry.
"About the contract?"
"Yes."
"About Kyle?"
"Yes."
Her breathing grew sharper.
"And about me?"
That's when Ryan moved.
Slowly.
Not threatening.
Measured.
"I've known about you since before you were born."
Silence fell like a guillotine.
Hazel's pulse roared in her ears.
"That's not possible."
Ryan stopped a few feet away.
"It is."
The lights flickered.
Hazel felt it again.
That burning beneath her skin.
"Stop lying to me!" she snapped.
The windows trembled.
Actually trembled.
Ryan's eyes darkened — not wolf.
Not fully vampire.
Something older flickered beneath.
"I am the only one who hasn't lied to you," he said quietly.
Her laugh was sharp. "You bought me."
His voice lowered dangerously.
"I reclaimed you."
The word hit differently.
Reclaimed.
The floor beneath Hazel's feet cracked slightly.
A thin fracture spreading outward.
Ryan's expression changed.
Not shock.
Recognition.
"It's starting," he murmured.
Hazel's heart slammed against her ribs.
"What is starting?!"
Ryan stepped closer.
Close enough that the air between them felt charged.
"Your blood is sealed," he said. "It was bound the night you were born."
Hazel shook her head. "I'm human."
"No," he replied.
"Then what am I?!"
The building lights exploded.
Glass shattered along the outer windows.
Wind roared through the office like a storm had been waiting outside.
Hazel screamed as pain shot through her spine.
Not breaking.
Opening.
Ryan moved instantly, catching her before she hit the ground.
Venom surged.
She awakens.
Blade went still.
The seal is breaking.
Hazel's eyes flew open.
They were no longer hazel.
Gold flooded the iris.
Then crimson.
Then both at once.
Ryan looked down at her — not afraid.
Certain.
"The eclipse returns tomorrow," he said calmly.
Hazel's voice layered over itself.
Two tones.
Maybe three.
"Why does that matter?"
Ryan's grip tightened slightly.
"Because you were never meant to live as human past your twenty-fourth year."
The air stilled.
Even the storm paused.
Hazel's breathing slowed unnaturally.
"What… are you saying?"
Ryan leaned closer.
His voice dropped to something ancient.
"You are the sealed heir of the Eclipse Throne."
The words echoed unnaturally through the room.
And then—
A mark burned onto Hazel's wrist.
A symbol.
Glowing.
Alive.
Ryan exhaled slowly.
"It has chosen you."
Hazel stared at the symbol in horror.
"No."
Across the supernatural territories that very second—
Wolves howled without knowing why.
Vampires felt a tremor in their veins.
Demons stirred in their sleep.
Something old had awakened.
And it had Hazel's heartbeat.
Ryan brushed his thumb lightly over the glowing mark.
Venom whispered darkly inside him.
Bow to her.
Blade murmured.
Or claim her.
Ryan's eyes never left hers.
"You don't belong to Kyle," he said quietly.
"You don't belong to this city."
He leaned closer.
"You belong to something that predates us all."
Hazel's voice trembled — not weak.
Overwhelmed.
"Then why do you look at me like that?"
Ryan's expression turned dangerously intimate.
"Because heir or not…"
His thumb pressed over her racing pulse.
"You are still my mate."
BOOM.
