Author's POV
A suffocating silence settled over the ICU room as Percy's words faded into the air, heavy and unbroken, as if even the walls themselves were afraid to breathe too loudly.
Keifer remained seated on the edge of the hospital bed, his crimson eyes never leaving the unconscious girl before him. He did not blink. He did not move. It was as though the entire world had narrowed down to the fragile rise and fall of her chest. An unbearable ache tightened around his heart, sharp and relentless, a desperate, overwhelming need to hold the person who owned every shattered piece of his soul. The kind of need that did not ask permission. The kind that simply existed, consuming everything else.
With infinite care, as though she were made of glass that would shatter at the slightest breath, he slipped one arm beneath her shoulders and the other beneath her trembling legs, gently lifting her fragile body from Percy's lap.
The moment his hands touched her—
Gasp.
Jay Jay flinched violently.
Her entire body went rigid as if struck by lightning, as if some invisible force had dragged her back into a place no one else could see.
A sharp tremor raced through her limbs, violent and uncontrollable, and her hands instinctively flew toward her fractured ribs, desperately trying to shield herself from pain that no longer existed. Her brows knitted together in unconscious terror, her face twisting as though she were reliving something far beyond the safety of the present, while a broken, ragged whimper escaped her swollen lips.
Even beneath heavy sedation...
Even trapped in the suffocating darkness of sleep...
Her body still remembered.
It remembered the merciless blows that had stolen her breath.
It remembered being grabbed, dragged, and thrown like she weighed nothing at all.
It remembered the cold, unforgiving concrete floor that had kissed her broken skin.
The horrifying memories had carved themselves so deeply into her subconscious that her sleeping body reacted before her mind ever could, as if pain had become a language her body could never forget.
The sight made everyone's blood run cold.
Angelo and Aries, who had quietly entered the ICU moments earlier after washing the blood from their hands, stopped in the doorway as though rooted to the floor. Their breathing caught painfully in their throats, eyes widening at the raw, involuntary fear written across her face.
Percy's eyes widened with panic, his body instinctively taking a step forward as if he could somehow undo what had already been etched into her.
But Keifer never let go.
Not even for a second.
Instead...
He tightened his embrace with heartbreaking gentleness, drawing her closer until her bandaged head rested securely in the curve of his neck, as though he could shield her from even the memory of pain itself. One large hand cradled the back of her head with reverent care while the other slowly rubbed comforting circles across her trembling back, grounding her in something real, something safe.
There was no panic in his movements.
No fear.
Only endless patience.
Only a quiet, unwavering love that did not demand her to wake, only promised she was no longer alone.
He lowered his head until his lips were close to her ear, his breath warm against her skin.
His voice emerged in its deepest, calmest register—a rich, gravelly vibration that resonated straight from his chest, steady as a heartbeat that refused to falter.
It was the voice she had always trusted.
The voice that had become her sanctuary in a world that had never been kind.
The voice that silently promised the world itself would burn before anyone was allowed to hurt her again.
"Shh..." he whispered, so softly it felt like a lullaby meant only for her broken pieces.
"My Jay Jay..."
His thumb gently stroked the back of her hand, careful, almost reverent, careful not to disturb the IV taped across her delicate skin, as if even the smallest pain inflicted on her was something he could not forgive the world for.
"The storm is over."
"You don't have to fight anymore."
"The darkness is gone."
"I've got you."
"I'm right here."
"No one will ever touch you again."
Each word fell like a promise carved into stone, unshakable, eternal, meant to outlive even fear itself.
The instant his voice reached her...
Everything changed.
The violent tension locked inside her tiny body slowly began to dissolve, like ice melting under the first touch of warmth after a long, merciless winter.
Her trembling eased, little by little, as though her body was finally remembering what it meant to rest.
Her defensive posture softened, the rigid fear loosening its grip.
The rapid, panicked breaths that had once fought for survival gradually synchronized with the steady, grounding rhythm of Keifer's heartbeat beneath her ear.
A tiny sigh escaped her lips, fragile and unguarded.
Then, almost instinctively, her fragile fingers weakly curled around the lapel of his charcoal suit jacket, as if anchoring herself to the only truth her subconscious still recognized.
Holding him.
Clinging to him.
As if even in the depths of unconsciousness...
She knew.
Somewhere inside the maze of nightmares clouding her mind, she had recognized the only place she had ever truly felt safe, even when everything else had been taken from her.
His voice.
His heartbeat.
His embrace.
She nestled closer against his chest, her head growing heavy on his shoulder as peaceful sleep slowly reclaimed her once more, pulling her away from the edge of fear and back into something softer, something almost like peace.
Not because the pain had disappeared...
But because her heart, even in its brokenness, knew she was finally home.
A long, trembling breath escaped Keifer's lips, as though he had been holding it since the moment she was taken from him.
He closed his eyes and rested his forehead gently against the crown of her head, holding her as if the world itself could not reach her here.
For the first time since she had been taken from him...
The suffocating fear crushing his chest eased, just enough for him to breathe again.
The ruthless Mafia King.
The man whose name made empires tremble into silence.
The feared billionaire who ruled the world's darkest underworld without mercy or hesitation.
Now sat in complete silence...
Holding the only person capable of bringing peace to the chaos inside him, the only person who made him human in a world that had taught him to be anything but.
Around them, no one spoke.
Percy quietly wiped away a tear he did not try to hide.
Aries lowered his gaze, his fists clenched tightly as emotion tightened his throat, as if words would fail him if he tried to speak.
Angelo simply looked away, blinking hard as relief and heartbreak collided violently inside his chest, leaving him silent in the aftermath.
None of them had ever witnessed a miracle quite like this.
A single voice...
A single embrace...
Had calmed a soul too shattered for words, too broken for anything but love to reach it.
And as the soft beeping of the heart monitor echoed gently through the quiet ICU, steady and unhurried like a reminder that time still moved forward, everyone understood one undeniable truth settling deep in their bones.
No matter how broken Jay Jay became...
No matter how dark the nightmare tried to swallow her whole...
She would always find her way back...
To Keifer.
Keifer closed his eyes, leaning his forehead gently against the top of her head as a heavy, long-awaited exhale finally left his lungs. The terrifying, cold mafia who ruled the global underworld was completely quiet now, his entire universe perfectly balanced by the soft, rhythmic breathing of the girl sleeping safely against his heart.
