I turned to look at Marcel. He turned to look at me, something like surprise flickering across his eyes.
He grinned widely and grabbed my hand.
"Axel! You're strong!! You're so strong!"
He was shouting it, gripping my hand hard enough that the bones shifted under his fingers, his grin so wide it bordered on stupid. I just stood there for a moment, not sure what to do with any of it.
I smiled a moment later.
"What do you mean I'm strong? All of this would never have been possible if it wasn't for you." I held his gaze. "You were the one that held it long enough."
Marcel shrugged.
"Nothing special, you would have done the same."
I stared at him. Didn't say anything for a moment.
I knew I wouldn't have done the same. Just minutes ago, I'd been willing to throw away his life if it meant I could save mine. The thought sat in my chest like a stone, and Marcel just stood there grinning at me, completely oblivious.
I sighed and managed a weak smile.
"Well… yes, I guess."
