Caspian's POV
None of it lined up any how, anywhere…
"…fuck it all…" I whispered under my breath. But before I could ponder any more over that -
Something moved. Not a sound.I just managed to see a shadow move. Every instinct in my body snapped tight at once.
"Down—!" I barked.
Too late.
The shadow lunged first.
It didn't come from one direction—it came from all around. Shadows peeling off the ground like they'd been waiting for a cue. Like they'd been watching and waiting for the right moment.
But they didn't feel like shadows when they collided with us. Well, maybe not collide, just scrape past us… and our skins were already burnt.
"Shit—!" Jax cursed, already dropping low.
We all hit the ground at the same time, bodies shifting into combat stance on instinct alone.
My eyes burned as they adjusted—too slow, too fucking slow—
