David's POV
I should have known something was off the moment I walked in.
The Patriarch stood there calm, composed, untouchable as fuck…Yeah. But he had a smile on him… almost welcoming…almost apologetic…
"My dear David…" That lasted about five seconds.
"I smell shit!"
"Yeah!A mild hindrance in the bigger game…"
" What is it…" The way he was speaking, was giving me the icks.
"Umm, we lost track of the girl for the time being… "
"Huh?!"
He finally looked up and shrugged in a matter of fact manner. "We don't know where the girl is anymore!"
"What the hell do you mean you don't know where she is anymore?" I snapped, my voice echoing sharper than I intended. "That was not part of our deal."
His gaze shifted to me slowly.Too slowly.Like I wasn't even worth the effort. The facade of an apology dropped too suddenly.
"I told you," he said, voice smooth as silk, "I was not responsible for your… useless toys."
