Leon's Pov
I didn't go home immediately after leaving the warehouse.
I drove around for almost an hour without properly paying attention to where Marvin was taking us because my head wouldn't settle long enough for me to think clearly. Every conversation from the last few days kept replaying itself differently now that Rico had said things out loud instead of hiding them behind vague warnings and half explanations.
You were never supposed to become attached to someone like Ava while standing where you stand now.
The irritating part was that I couldn't even dismiss it completely.
Because somewhere between trying to protect her and trying to keep her away from the uglier parts of my life, I'd accidentally made her the center of almost every decision I was making recently.
And that kind of realization becomes dangerous once you finally notice it properly.
"Sir?"
Marvin's voice pulled me out of my thoughts slightly.
I looked up.
We were outside my office building again.
