Chapter 77 - Chapter 76: In the Rain

The rain fell in silence, not a sound; droplets jeweled the window—scattered sprites rather than strung pearls.

They slid quietly away, foam-soft feelings trailing behind.

Suspended yet hazy through the glass, indistinct and never uniform, they brushed the heart without warning.

"Miscalculated—should've brought an umbrella."

Gold Legend stood under the eaves of the training-field bleachers, quietly watching the raindrops play.

Spring rain is always like this: gentle, silent, arriving unheard.

Thousands of silver threads drifted from the sky; eaves dripped rows of pearls, a curtain of beauty.

Legend reached out; tiny drops tapped her palm, not cold at all—clear, intimate.

"A drizzle on the street moistens like cream; from afar the grass seems woven, yet close-up it's unseen."

Cornered beneath the eaves by the spring rain, Legend recited poetry to amuse herself.

"Ah, I know that one—some poem from Shenzhou, something about light rain,"

A carefree voice sounded behind her.

Legend glanced back into a pair of greenish eyes.

"It's 'Light Rain in Early Spring' by Tang-dynasty poet Han Yu, Senior Chiaki,"

Legend answered calmly, gaze returning to the sparkling drizzle.

"Whatever. More importantly, what are you doing here, Legend-chan?"

Mr. C.B. asked naturally.

"As you see—sheltering from rain."

I forgot my umbrella.

Legend brushed off.

"Why hide?"

"Because it's raining."

Why ask such a question?

Legend turned to Mr. C.B. only to find the Uma Musume already standing in the rain.

"Yes, it's raining. So why hide?"

She smiled.

Rain soaked her long hair and clothes, plastering them to her body.

For some reason, Legend felt a flutter.

"…What are you doing?"

"As you see—standing in the rain."

Mr. C.B. answered with a smile.

Her words were calm, almost other-worldly.

"Do you like the rain?" she asked.

"If I must answer—not really," Legend replied softly, eyes half-closed.

"I, however, love it."

Mr. C.B. turned, arms wide open, embracing the cool drops.

"…"

"When rain strikes me, I know my own shape. On roofs, against the ground—those sounds blend like an orchestra. It's wonderful!"

Mr. C.B. monologued in the rain.

Under the eaves Legend opened her mouth to remind the drenched girl, but the one-sided chatter never paused; the words wouldn't come.

The standoff continued, forming a curious scene.

Two Uma Musume: one stretching joyfully in the rain, chattering away.

One standing quietly beneath the eaves, listening calmly.

"Hey!"

The girl in the rain suddenly jumped, landing in a puddle.

The splash sent muddy water onto the girl under the eaves.

Too late—her clothes were already speckled with mud.

"Haha."

"…Are you a kid, Senior Chiaki?"

"You can fight back."

"I'm not you."

A mischievous smile blossomed on Mr. C.B.'s face, utterly charming.

But Legend, ever stingy, cared more about her dirty clothes.

"Hehe—ha!"

Chiaki stomped again; more mud splattered Legend's outfit.

"…Take this!"

Gold Legend threw caution aside and leapt into another puddle, splashing Senmei's skirt.

"As expected, you're fun, Legend-chan—take that!"

Delighted, Mr. C.B. danced about, kicking up muddy water.

Legend retaliated swiftly.

The two childish souls romped in the rain.

"See? Rain is fun, isn't it?"

"Not at all!"

"Tsunderes are out of style, Legend-chan~"

Mr. C.B. spun round and round, beaming.

Her rain-drenched smile created an aura of ethereal beauty.

As if she were feeling the rain—or the entire world; at least, she looked it.

"Hahaha!"

Her laughter rang lovely through the rain.

"Catch me if you can!"

She ran; her tea-brown hair, soaked, unfurled like a peacock's tail.

"What the heck am I even doing!"

Legend muttered in despair—and chased after her.

No one around; a downpour always makes you want to let loose.

"Strolling in the rain—how ro-man-tic!"

She fled.

"Where's the ro-mance in that!"

She pursued.

"Hahahaha!"

Her laughter drifted on the wind.

"Why—why is it like this!"

Her bewilderment fell with the rain.

Voices of abandon echoed across the training field.

Surely no one could hear—surely!
