Emma found Alexander on the penthouse balcony, staring out at the city, a tumbler of scotch in his hand. He didn't turn when she stepped outside, but his shoulders tensed.
"You were right," Emma said quietly. "About everything. Voss wants you to step down as CEO. If you don't, the photographs go public Monday at noon."
Alexander's grip tightened on the glass, but he still didn't turn. "Did he hurt you?"
"No. He was—civilized. Polite, even. Which somehow made it worse." Emma moved to stand beside him. "Alexander, I'm so sorry. You told me it was a trap and I went anyway. I thought I could handle it, thought I could negotiate or at least understand what we were dealing with. Instead, I just gave him exactly what he wanted—confirmation that we're desperate enough to meet with him."
