The new zone was nastier than the last one.
More spider-lizards, for starters, and they were packed tighter. The first room had eight of them, which took actual effort. The second had six plus a nest in the corner, which meant eggs.
Mira stomped them one by one while Ashara and Isendra handled the adults. Each egg popped under her boot with a wet crunch that Ashara could have gone her whole life without hearing.
"This is so gross," Mira said, stomping another one. "This is so gross."
"You volunteered," Ashara said.
"I didn't know they'd be squishy!" She stomped the last one and scraped her boot against the stone floor, making a face. "Okay, I need new boots after this. These are ruined. These are emotionally ruined."
The third room had four, which felt like a break.
The fourth room had a new kind.
