Chapter 75 - Monster

(3rd person POV)

While Alexan was camping out for the night in his self created cave a large group of Thalmor were setting traps for him far ahead on the road.

"Sir, the runes have been placed and the blades coated in the toxin." one of the golden armored Altmer reported to a tall Altmer in a grand black robe with bright golden embellishments.

"Very good, the disposable unit may have failed to kill this filthy mutt but we are not a bunch of wastes like them. Each and every one of you is an elite blooded soldier of the Dominion. I myself am a royal blooded inquisitorial commander. This mongrel will soon cease to be a stain upon the line of Alysaen." the tall Altmer said with a cold fury burning behind his voice.

"With all due respect sir. Won't SHE be unhappy with our actions?" the elite soldier asked a little nervously.

The tall Altmer's face paled for a moment as he thought of a certain woman but quickly hardened again.

"She will kill each and every one of us, this cannot be denied. But to restore the divine purity of that line we will make that sacrifice." he said with a steeled expression of resolve.

"For purity, sir." the soldier said steeling their own will and saluting.

"For purity." the tall elf returned the salute.

They settled in to wait for their target at their chosen ambush spot. The cold left them stiff and aching but they endured without a fire to chase it away lest they be discovered early. Magic woven into their armors kept them from freezing but more than a few had reddened noses as the cold wind swept their faces raw. -

In the morning the blizzard eased up though a thin but constant fall of snow continued. None of the soldiers swept it off as the white powder camouflaged their gleaming golden armor. It was only around mid day when they spotted the fast approaching cloud of snow as Alexan came barreling down the road on his mount. His form was impossible to see with the [chameleon] spell cloaking him but the spell would do nothing in the face of the dozen runes planted on the road. The tall elf couldn't help but gape in astonishment at the series of things that happened in short order the moment the first rune erupted in flames as the mount touched it.-

In the span of a single blink the mount was desummoned, Alexan drew a strange blade from his chest and the rest of the runes erupted around him as a ward snapped up. The crisp shattering sound of the ward breaking was drowned out by the roar of raw elemental fury that fell upon him. Just as fast as it came however it vanished and these elves all collectively gulped at what they saw. There standing in the center of the devastation was the steaming and slightly charred form of Alexan. Not only not dead but almost unharmed beyond the obvious devastation his clothes had endured.-

All of them felt it as the very world seemed to hold it's breath as a word tore from his throat like the crack of thunder.

"LAAS!(life)"

The word was a command to the very world itself and the world obeyed as each of the elves present suddenly felt exposed. A pair of bright silver eyes turned towards them all and the face of their owner was filled with a rage so deep it seemed to roll off of him.

"WULD NAH KEST!(Whirlwind fury tempest)"

Another command to the world, this time with far more power rumbled through the air from Alexan's throat and he vanished. Not blurred, not moved, vanished. Like space itself couldn't keep up with his acceleration he went from hundreds of meters away to a mere five in an instant. His blade already possessing a faint glow that made all those seeing it feel a deep sense of dread in the pits of their stomachs. The reason why became apparent the instant the blade began to fall. There was no whistle of the blade cutting wind, nor the ring of metal in motion.-

It were as if the blade cut through all of this and touched upon something beyond. The strike didn't directly touch a single person here yet the soldier still in the process of standing and drawing their blade was split in half vertically as a white line simply appeared in the air. Alexan showed his famed mastery for the blade as before the first slash was even fully complete he seamlessly transitioned into another with an entirely different target already in his sight. These weren't random scrub soldiers though and after the initial shock wore off they all moved. -

This full eleven Altmer elite infantrymen charged at him as one to overwhelm him even as his second strike was barely blocked. Their golden feathered looking armors rattled as they moved but Alexan's gaze didn't waver even slightly as with borderline superhuman quickness he back stepped out of the encirclement while a rune appeared right where he was previously standing. The charging soldiers with shields raised them hurriedly while the others less fortunate tried to kill their momentum and retreat, they failed. Alexan manually detonated the rune catching most of the soldiers in the electrical explosion.-

They cried out in agony as the electricity tore into them and ripped out a chuck of their magicka. The overall injuries were not too bad though and they grit their teeth and moved to surround Alexan again, much more cautiously this time. The tall robed Altmer formed bolts of lightning in his palms and thrust them towards Alexan. The free left hand of Alexan shot out with fingers curled at the spell and to the confusion of all of them except him absorbed the spell without a single smidge of damage. -

This was the high adept level mysticism spell [Counterspell]. It worked by understanding the exact spell being sent at it's user and then creating an exact opposite magical structure thus perfectly nullifying the spell. It usually wasn't very useful as you rarely got the time to deconstruct a spell but Alexan's incredibly sharp mind made it possible, so long as he himself knew the spell being used. In the brief instant of delay this surprise caused Alexan's blade released two more slashes bisecting another two soldiers before they could block.

The pressure these soldiers felt facing Alexan was heavy and even in this bitter frozen cold had sweat beading up on their brows. His form didn't falter, didn't doubt, it just WAS. It was only at this point that each and every one of them understood what sort of being they had poked. This was no mere dog to put down but a dormant dragon that they had awoken. As if that wasn't bad enough they all collectively remembered a single detail in his dossier, he was only turning sixteen.

'What a monster.' they all collectively thought as he gazed at them with the cold dispassion of an apex predator observing sheep.
