Chapter 76 - Massacre

When I eventually got ambushed on the road my anger was not because it happened but how. We were rushing forward as normal when the very road under us flared up with magic. The first of the runes to go off, a fire rune, erupted and scorched my toad badly in the split second before I sent it back to Oblivion. I drew out my blade and threw up a ward as fast as I could even as the flames roared over me as I just knew that wasn't the only rune, it'd be too little to kill even a normal mage much less me.-

My thoughts were proven true when no less than six more runes, all fire or lightning, erupted around me. My ward blocked the impact from maybe two of them before being overwhelmed and shattering. I took the rest with my body and could say definitively it really fucking hurt. The thing that made me pissed though was that no attacks came after the runes. Like I was expected to just keel over even if I somehow survived them. I wouldn't say that I had many triggers but being treated like a bug easily squashed was one of them.-

It was one thing when literal gods did it, kinda pointless to rage about that. But people? That was a whole other matter. Restraint? That was out the window with the amount of anger I was feeling. First I used the [life hunt] shout to pinpoint not only where these bastards were hiding but also how many of them there were. My anger cooled considerably as I counted the thirteen life forces hiding under the snow a couple hundred meters of the side of the road.-

That sounds like a small amount but considering I was only a single person that was no small amount of force being placed against me. The quickness of how fast they were reacting also further proved I wasn't being as badly underestimated as I first thought letting my anger cool the rest of the way. Since my ability to use the thu'um was already exposed to these enemies I decided going all out wouldn't hurt. I commanded the world with the full three word shout of [whirlwind sprint] and crossed the couple hundred meter distance in an instant while already swinging my blade full of intent.-

Between the sheer momentum and hint of she` hai I unleashed the golden armored soldier in the midst of drawing his blade was sundered in half. I pivoted toward the end of my swing into a transition strike and actually got blocked this time, barely. The others clad in similar armor all moved as one to encircle me and I quickly back stepped while leaving a lightning rune behind. They reacted instantly and tried to avoid or block it confirming a thought of mine.

'This are no base soldiers but elites.'

I mentally triggered the rune catching most of them in the resulting explosion before using that split second of delay between them feeling the pain and overcoming it to bisect another two soldiers. The others didn't even twitch at their comrades deaths but rushed to encircle me more cautiously this time while the tall robed Altmer at the back prepared two over charged [lightning bolt] spells in his palms. My mind raced and I quickly constructed a counter circle and raised my left hand to catch the spells. [Counterspell] was not usually going to be my first choice but for elites like this I needed to unnerve them if I wanted this fight not to be a slog.-

High end mysticism magic was practically a myth in this era after the Psijic order literally vanished and took all their members with them. Those who could use it usually weren't on the battlefield ever so my choice did create a pause in even these well disciplined soldiers. It was enough though as I sucked in air like a whale swallows water and shouted.

"FUS RO DAH!(Force balance push)"

The world erupted as a blast of pure raw force crashed ahead of me crushing three soldiers like empty soda cans with blood and viscera exploding along with snow and stone in a wide cone.-

I ignored the trench I blasted open and launched myself forward into a deep stab at another soldier. My blade screeched against their alloyed armor but I forced it through before spartan kicking the dying soldier off of it and backhanding another blade away barehanded as a soldier tried to stab my exposed side. The sparks kicked up from the blade grinding against my flesh left the soldiers even more unnerved.

"TZZEEEERR!"

A loud screech filled the air and a shadow fell over us as Lokjun descended and crushed two more soldiers close together under it's weight. There were only four remaining elves, three soldiers and the tall robed Altmer.

"Handle the soldiers, the mage is mine." I said firmly before charging towards the robed Altmer.

The soldiers went to block me but Lokjun swatted them out of the way refusing to be ignored.

"I suppose I shouldn't be surprised give that woman's blood flows in your veins. Thirteen elite veterans all being killed by a single half-breed mutt not even twenty summers old. You've hidden deeply, the dominion has no idea the threat you pose." the tall elf said with a snarl.

"Save your drivel for those who care. Die." I said wreathing my blade in fire as I swung it at him.

He summons a ward with both hands that stop my blade from cutting him, for all of two seconds. I roar as I roughly push my will into my blade and the orange flames turn white before a slash of energy slices apart his ward. It cleaves a hundred meter long gouge into the earth. His body twitched a bit as it splits in two halves and falls to the ground dead.-

With him dead I pulse my magicka through the blade cleaning it of blood and gore before calmly watching Lokjun fight the last three soldiers. The not so little monster was relying on brute force to keep them at bay but clearly their experience and skill made that nearly pointless. They danced around it trying to land any lethal blow they could and the thing could only screech angrily as it failed to accomplish anything. The golden elvish blades couldn't leave deep wounds on it but even a thousand papercuts could kill. -

I didn't intend to step in however as Lokjun needed this experience. There was no telling when it may need to fight against people again and this experience would help it then. The soldiers seemingly understood that I was using them to hone my familiar but they couldn't do anything about it and could only grit their teeth in rage. In the end Lokjun eventually killed them but there was no pride in that fact for it as it only did so through endurance, not skill or power.
