The castle loomed above me, like a giant monster—ancient walls that had probably seen more death than life.
Geez, it was scary.
"This is where you live?" I asked, my voice smaller than I intended it to be.
"This is where we live now," he corrected.
We?.
That word shouldn't send shivers down on my spine, but it did. Eva was purring again like an idiot.
"Come." Damian's voice pulled me out of my thoughts.
He didn't wait for me to respond. I huffed. Arrogant king. He just started walking toward the massive entrance.
I followed him, because did I have any choice?
The doors opened, before we even reached them. Like they knew we were arriving. Two vampires stood on either side, their faces blank, their eyes empty. They bowed as Damian passed.
Neither of them looked at me. Indeed, they were expressionless creatures.
Inside was worse than outside. Cold. Dark. Giving haunted houses vibes.
Candles flickered on the walls, but they didn't give much light. Just enough to see shadows . Every instinct screamed at me to run out of here.
"This way." Damian's hand was suddenly on my lower back, guiding me.
Oh God.
His touch sent electricity through my body. Eva purred again. Can you stop purring Eva, you become a pup. She didn't reply, enjoying his touch, well I too was enjoying it.
We walked through hallways that seemed to go on forever. Everything looked the same. Stone walls. Dark floors. More candles. This castle was so large—when would I reach my room? I guessed tomorrow.
How did anyone not get lost here?
"Your room is in the east wing," Damian said without looking at me.
"Where is your room?" The question slipped out before I could stop myself.
He turned to me, his eyes now red, then chuckled.
"Why, little wolf? Are you planning to visit me?" His smirk was infuriating. "My room is in the west wing. But if you get lonely—"
"I'm fine." I didn't let him finish his sentence, my face was heating up, I stopped myself before blushed.
"We'll see, little wolf."
He started walking again, and I had no choice but to follow.
"You'll stay there until I decide."
Until he decided?
"What does that mean?"
He stopped walking. Turned to face me. His red eyes were back.
"It means, little wolf, that you are here under my rules. My kingdom. My castle. You do what I say, when I say it."
I should have been scared. Terrified, even.
But anger took over my senses.
"I'm not your pet."
He stepped closer. So close I had to tilt my head back to look at him since he was very tall.
"No. You're not." His voice was low. Dangerous. "You're much more than that. And that's the problem."
Before I could ask what he meant, he said,
"Your things have already been brought to your room. Your dinner will be brought there as well." Then he turned around. "Don't wander, especially at night. This castle is big. You could get lost."
Then, without looking at me, he was gone. Disappeared into the shadows—God knows where.
I stood alone in the hallway. My heart was racing. My hands were shaking.
What the hell had I gotten myself into?
A female vampire appeared from nowhere. She was beautiful in that unnatural way all vampires seemed to be. Pale skin. Dark hair. Black eyes.
"Most of them have black eyes, and red too," Eva said, making her presence known. Letting me know she was still here.
"Lady Evelyn. Follow me, please."
Her voice was soft, but her eyes held no warmth or emotions.
I followed her through the gallery. Damn so many stairs, I climbed higher and higher. My legs were burning. It seemed like forever to reach my room.
She pushed the heavy wooden door.
"Your room."
I stepped inside. The room was huge. Bigger than my room back at the pack house. A massive bed sat in the center. A fireplace crackled with actual fire, giving the room some warmth.
Windows were covered with heavy curtains. I couldn't see outside.
"Your belongings are in the room. Do you need anything?"
I shook my head.
She left without another word, her eyes flashing with hatred. Of course vampires hated wolves, but it wasn't my fault—it was their king's.
The door closed with a heavy thud.
Now I was alone.
Completely alone.
I walked to the bed and sat down. It was soft. Too soft.
My eyes filled with tears. I refused to let them fall. I was strong. But I missed my parents. Right now, I just felt like a girl who was very far from home.
Eva whimpered in my head. She missed our parents too.
I opened the wooden wardrobe, which was quite old and made a creaking sound that seemed haunted. The whole place seemed like a haunted house where ghosts lived. Of course, vampires were ghosts—the way they lived. My clothes, makeup box, and accessories were neatly settled in the wardrobe.
I opened the bathroom, which was also bigger than my room. An old vintage-type tub sat in the middle. After finishing my night routine,I came to my room, dinner was settled on the table, after having dinner, I lay back on the bed and stared at the ceiling. There is no electricity in this room, since Vampires love darkness.
Stone. Everything in this place was stone.
How was I going to survive six months here?
Soon, darkness took over me.
Damian's POV
"My lord, could I ask why you changed our plan?" Jacob's voice pulled me from my thoughts. I was sitting in my office chair, tapping the armrest with my finger.
"Not now, Jacob. I changed my plan because right now, I think this is better. If anything happens in the future, we'll follow our previous plan."
He nodded and walked out of the room.
I sat alone now, thinking about what happened today. The day didn't go the way I wanted. What was happening to me? Why did Evelyn's presence make me like this?
Before I could stop myself, in the blink of an eye, I reached the room where she was living from now on. It was already midnight. She was probably asleep.
I slightly opened the door. Her soft, feminine scent filled my nostrils.
Damn it.
I moved closer to her bed. She slept peacefully, without knowing her smell, her beauty, her presence were already messing with my head. She was the most beautiful girl in the world. An innocent look on her face—she looked like an angel. An angel for the devil.
But she was courageous. The way she stood up for her people.
I shouldn't be here, but damn, I couldn't stop myself.
My eyes zeroed on her lips. Fuck, they looked so soft. How would they feel if I kissed those pretty lips? I'd never felt the desire I felt for her—never felt this way for any woman before.
Till now I was only desperate for blood, but seeing her unlocked another side of me. A side that wanted to claim her. To make her mine.
Had anyone ever kissed her lips? The mere thought turned something inside me. Anger burned through me like hell.
I would kill any man who dared to touch what was mine.
Had she met her mate? According to the information Tom got me, she was twenty-two, and most werewolves met their mate before twenty. Only rare ones found them later. I didn't see her mate at that party.
Even if she had a mate, I would kill him. No one could take my little wolf away from me.
After seeing her one last time and filling my lungs with her scent, I walked out of her room.
