Camilla's POV
The weight of Hugo's accusations had been crushing me since our confrontation. His questions about that night echoed in my mind like a broken record, each repetition making my chest tighter. I retreated to my bedroom without fighting back because honestly, I had no defense to offer.
Once safely behind closed doors, I grabbed my phone and dialed my mother's number. My feet carried me restlessly from wall to wall as the line rang.
"Well, well, another call from my dear daughter today," she answered with obvious amusement. She was clearly referencing our earlier conversation when she had instructed me to stop Hugo from taking Zack away.
What she didn't know was that my attempt to follow her advice had backfired spectacularly. Now Hugo suspected me of something that could destroy everything.
"This isn't the time for jokes, Mom," I snapped, my voice sharp with anxiety.
