After Oliver looks at his attributes and skills he cant help but get excited, he's dreamed of getting his status screen and class since he was a child and now despite the situation he's in he cant help but feel this way.
After getting his class he feels stronger and lighter on his feet than he did before. That's because your class determines your starting attributes too, not just your class skills. So now that he's gotten his class he's stronger and more agile than he was before because a base human before acquiring a class would have around five in each attribute on average, but now almost all of his attributes have gone above five.
The breakdown for what your attributes govern are as follows. Constitution Governs your health pool. Wisdom Governs your mana pool which you use to cast spells and use skills. Strength Governs how strong you are and how much damage you do with melee weapons. Agility Governs how fast you can move your body as well as how quick your reflexes are. While intelligence Governs how much damage your spells do, if you don't have an affinity or have an affinity that doesn't support spells people usually just leave it at five. You get one stat point to distribute per level.
"Okay now that you've gotten your class we must hurry to the caravan that's arrived from Fated Sect. Everyone else is already there and the people from Fated Sect are in a hurry to leave. We were their last stop since we're the furthest city from their headquarters which is in Thebes." Arthur hurriedly says.
They then rush out of the hidden room and head towards the city's center where the caravan is. When they get there Oliver sees a line of wagons which are being pulled by giant two legged lizards called Land Raptors. Land Raptors are a common beast of burden in this part of Atlas and are extremely fast and have great stamina, they're popular beasts to form a soulbind with because of their speed and overall utility.
When they arrive at the caravan Maria, Olivers mom, rushes up to them and sweeps Oliver into a hug and begins to cry. Sophie, Olivers sister also comes over and hugs Olivers leg, she also begins to cry.
It takes several minutes for them to calm down and Oliver can see that the guards of the caravan are clearly impatient to get moving. It's still early in the morning but they still have a fairly long journey to where the training camp they're going to is located.
After calming down Maria hands Oliver a set of black leather armor which consists of a breast plate, leg guards and vambraces which she makes Oliver put on immediately. "The armor is just simple leather armor that we could scrounge up on short notice, if we'd have known this was going to happen we'd have had something custom made for your level." Mariah says while she holds back a sob. Oliver looks at the armor with his system which says: Basic leather armor: required level 1
Defence: 5
Durability: 200/200
Maria then hands him two daggers that have pitch black blades, while being about a foot long and makes him switch out his current daggers with them. The status on the dagger reads
Darkfang daggers:
Attack: 10
Durability: 1000/1000
"The daggers were supposed to be one of your birthday presents that we never got to give you last night." Arthur says after Oliver puts them into his sheaths. "They have the highest attack modifier that you can get at level one." Arthur explains.
His mom also gives him an all black cloak to wear that has a deep hood which Oliver puts on immediately.
Oliver gives each of them one more hug before entering the last carriage of ten. Inside he finds nine other people from Shadow Glade. Most of them are crying because like him they didn't expect to be conscripted by Fated Sect. The fact that Shadow Glade could only manage to scrounge up eighteen out of the required twenty conscripts just shows Oliver how many people had died in the beast tide last night.
To make things worse Oliver only sees one of his friends that are the same age as him inside the carriage. His name is Brutus, he's a fairly tall man with large bulging muscles, he has short cut brown hair and brown eyes and would be fairly good looking if not for the fact he has a terribly dejected look on his face, he had also clearly been crying recently judging by his red and puffy eyes.
Brutus is the son of Albert the head of the city's guard. He had turned eighteen five months before Oliver and had the same class as his father who was a knight. Knight is a melee tank class who's class stone is held by the Adventures guild. Brutus had traveled to Thebes to gain his class because that was the closest branch of the Adventures guild that held the Knights class stone.
Most class stones are held by guilds or sects with the Adventurers guild being the easiest to join. It costs gold to gain a class from a guild as well as membership but once you joined you were able to take on jobs from the guild based upon your qualifications.
Most people never gained a class because they either didn't have the qualifications to join a sect or because they didn't have the gold to buy one. As long as you lived in a decent sized town or city you didn't need a class because they have guards who's job it was to protect their citizens from beasts. Almost everyone had some kind of soulbound though.
In Shadow Glades all of their roughly five thousand citizens had classes. That was because not only did Shadow Glades have several class stones of their own but also because they were located right next to the Great Forest which had the largest population of beasts in the country of Alera. Shadow Glades had three class stones which were, Scout, Warrior and shaman. Shaman was an abnormal class which required you to have an elemental affinity to acquire. The reason these class stones were still here and hadn't been taken by a large sect or guild were because they were a type of class stone called a Standing Stone which were tall monoliths that couldn't be moved, even if they could be moved they would lose their ability to grant classes. These standing stones were what the city was built around and any citizen of Shadow Glades was allowed to choose one of these classes free of charge. A lot of people from other towns and cities would come to Shadow Glades to purchase their class with gold because Shadow Glades didn't require you to join some organization to acquire the class.
