Bang!
As soon as Shane finished speaking, a man at the table diagonally across from them slammed his fist onto the table in anger and abruptly stood up, marching right up to Shane.
His movement triggered the other werewolves in the restaurant. They rose in unison, surrounding Shane's table in the blink of an eye, teeth bared, looking ready to tear someone apart.
"You want to die?!" the man snarled at Shane, his tone icy and radiating aggressive menace.
"Who is he?" Shane tilted his head and looked at Luke.
"Theo. The Pack Alpha."
It wasn't Luke who answered, but Theo himself.
Shane nodded, glanced at the werewolves surrounding them, and smiled at Theo. "You want to start something?"
"Kid, I really hate your attitude. Sometimes, you need to learn what respect is. If you don't know it, I don't mind teaching you," Theo said coldly.
"Respect? For whom? You? Even if you are the Alpha, you're not qualified, and there's nothing about you worthy of my respect."
"You'll find out soon enough if I'm qualified."
Theo scoffed, waved for the other werewolves to back off, and took a step back himself, standing in the aisle. He curled his finger at Shane with disdain.
Shane chuckled, stood up, and faced Theo.
"Didn't you say you weren't here to provoke trouble? Didn't you say there wouldn't be a fight? I knew it would end up like this." Olivia grumbled internally, her hand reaching behind her back to grip her gun again.
Honestly, in this moment, Olivia suddenly felt a bit useless.
Since meeting Shane, her worldview had been completely shattered. Shapeshifters, Wendigos, now werewolves. Shane was a ninja with ninjutsu. And her?
Just a pistol!
Every time something happened, she reached for her gun. What use was that?!
"Come on, kid!"
Theo spread his hands, signaling for Shane to make the first move.
So arrogant?
Fine, I won't be polite then. Just the right time to test a new jutsu!
Hand seals. Turn around. Sit down.
All in one smooth motion.
"You..."
Everyone expected a fierce battle, or maybe Shane spewing a sea of fire like last time. But Shane just made some unknown hand seals, turned around, and sat back down?
What was going on?
Just a moment ago he was saying "want to go a round," saying the Alpha wasn't worthy of respect. Now... he chickened out?
Olivia didn't get it. Luke didn't get it. The other werewolves didn't get it either.
"Demonic Illusion: Hell Viewing Technique." The corners of Shane's mouth curled up as he whispered the name softly.
"You dare!"
Theo, the Alpha, suddenly shouted in rage. His roar confused everyone.
You dare?
What is the Alpha talking about? We didn't do anything! Is he talking about the kid? But he didn't do anything either. The woman next to him didn't do anything either.
Just as the werewolves were bewildered and at a loss, Theo spoke again, furious.
"I am your Alpha! You dare attack me? You want to defeat me and become the new Alpha? Keep dreaming!"
"No... no... spare me! Spare me! Don't kill me! I'll leave the pack! Don't kill me... don't kill me..."
Although Theo was standing still in the same spot, his expression was incredibly vivid. It shifted from anger and ferocity to humility and terror. He began to beg for mercy, and finally let out a wretched scream—like the last roar of a dying life. Even without seeing his face, just hearing the voice conveyed boundless fear.
Thud!
Theo's knees gave way, and he fell heavily to the ground. Supporting himself with his hands, head hanging low, cold sweat of terror dripping onto the floor drop by drop. His body convulsed violently, gasping for air like a drowning man finally breaking the surface—greedy and desperate.
Silence!
Dead silence!
The Alpha's condition stunned all the werewolves. They didn't know what Shane had done, but they knew the Alpha must have experienced something terrifying. Otherwise, their bravest and strongest leader wouldn't be like this.
That fear... even though they didn't know what the Alpha saw, they felt a phantom empathy, a shared dread in their own hearts.
They subconsciously looked at Shane. The moment their eyes landed on him, they subconsciously looked away in panic.
They actually didn't dare to look at him!
"You... you... what did you do to me?" Theo stood up trembling, his voice shaking uncontrollably.
Shane looked at Theo. Before their eyes could even meet, Theo jerked his head away to avoid it.
He, Theo, the Werewolf Alpha, didn't even have the courage to make eye contact!
This made Theo feel his dignity was being trampled. He clenched his fists tight, tensing his muscles, trying to forcibly suppress the fear.
But his mind uncontrollably replayed the scenes he had just experienced.
Right here in the Jade Wolf restaurant, his pack rebelled. Everyone besieged him.
He fought back. He was the Wolf King. He was the strongest one.
But in the end, he was defeated. He was going to die. He was terrified, scared. He started begging, even offering to leave the pack. But those pack members wouldn't let him go. They swarmed him, tearing at his body without mercy.
The sensation of being eaten alive was incredibly real. Even now, he felt like he could still feel the pain of being torn apart all over his body.
He was afraid.
He was truly afraid.
It was all too real—so real it felt like it had actually happened!
"Sometimes, you need to learn what respect is. If you don't know it, I don't mind teaching you." Shane spoke slowly. His voice, his tone, even his posture seemed like casual chatter, completely lacking the arrogance and aggression Theo had shown earlier. But the effect was countless times stronger.
Because now, no one felt Shane wasn't qualified to say it.
