Chapter 28 - Chapter 28: Anna

While warning Olivia, Shane also didn't forget to reflect on himself.

Vampire compulsion can erase people's memories, and powerful vampires can even twist people's thoughts.

If compulsion is likened to Genjutsu, can I break it?

Genjutsu attacks the enemy's five senses, plunging them into hallucinations. Skilled Genjutsu users can even manipulate the chakra flow in the enemy's cranial nerves at will, achieving disruption and control.

Demonic Illusion: Hell Viewing Technique belongs to this category.

Vampire compulsion should be a mental force originating from the bloodline, released through eye contact and voice.

The Byakugan should be able to break vampire compulsion. After all, the Byakugan is a Dojutsu Kekkei Genkai; its bloodline and structure are different from ordinary eyes.

Moreover, vampire compulsion isn't absolute. Its effect on other supernatural creatures is less obvious, or even nonexistent. Even ordinary humans, as long as they have mental resilience and strong willpower, have a chance to resist.

Since I know Genjutsu, I should have some resistance to it.

Strong chakra.

High mastery of Genjutsu.

Perfect Jinchuriki.

These factors grant immunity to Genjutsu. I'm still far from that level, but at most, I'm confident I can deal with vampire compulsion.

Back at the hotel, Shane received a call from Luke.

The Williamsburg Diner was owned by the Russian mob. They had absolutely no intention of selling. As for the building itself, the landlord had signed a long-term lease with them, with six years remaining on the contract.

Not good news, but not bad news either.

Eight months before the plot of 2 Broke Girls begins, the goofy boss Han takes over the diner from the Russian mob. This means that if Shane wants to officially "check in" to 2 Broke Girls, he might have to wait up to five years. There was no need to get the diner right now.

Time was plentiful, so there was indeed no rush to buy the diner now. But who could guarantee that the Russian mob would definitely sell the diner to Han right before the lease expired?

This is a fused American TV universe, not just the 2 Broke Girls world. With so many show plots and worldviews merging together, what if a butterfly effect occurs? A small event inadvertently changed could pull one hair and move the whole body, completely altering the trajectory of certain plots.

Even without the butterfly effect, even knowing the 2 Broke Girls plot starts in five years, who knows where I'll be in five years? What I'll be doing? What if I forget about this?

Better to secure it now!

Since I want to buy it, there's no need to wait until next time.

Shane got the contact information for the diner owner from Luke, planning to find time to meet and chat.

At dusk, Shane's phone rang again.

Not an unknown number, nor Luke or Olivia next door. It was Anna, the "fellow townsman" he met during the day.

After connecting, Anna identified herself, said she got off work, and asked if he wanted to meet up and chat.

Shane agreed readily.

Shortly after, Anna texted him the meeting location.

"She actually invited me to meet at her apartment? She definitely has ulterior motives!" Shane looked at the text on his phone and decided not to bring Olivia this time.

He could handle vampires, but Olivia couldn't—at least not yet. If Anna really had bad intentions, Olivia would definitely be at a disadvantage in a fight, and he could easily be compromised trying to protect her.

Leaving the hotel, Shane took a taxi to the appointment.

Bored on the way, Shane recalled Anna's performance in the show, guessing her purpose for inviting him to her home.

Anna was no vegetarian vampire. Despite her youthful appearance, she was actually an old vampire over a hundred years old. Back in 1864, she and her mother Pearl had visited the vampire Katherine Pierce. At that time, the two male leads, the Salvatore brothers Damon and Stefan, hadn't even been turned into vampires yet.

She and her mother Pearl settled in Mystic Falls. Pearl and Katherine were good friends, and Pearl had advised Katherine to leave several times, but Katherine wouldn't listen.

In the end, Katherine screwed up!

Katherine, Pearl, and the other vampires in town were sealed in the tomb beneath the old church, and the church was burned down.

Anna narrowly escaped and left Mystic Falls.

Years later, when the The Vampire Diaries plot began, Anna turned a recent high school graduate from the town into a helper and returned to Mystic Falls. She approached the heroine Elena's brother, Jeremy, trying to get Jeremy's family journal to find the way to break the tomb seal and rescue her mother.

After several twists and turns, Anna succeeded.

She rescued her mother, but in the process, she fell in love with Jeremy.

How did the lyrics go?

Falling in love is not that easy!

Just when Anna and her mother Pearl decided to give up on reclaiming Mystic Falls and stay to live a peaceful life, Jeremy's uncle killed them.

Judging solely from Anna's performance in the show, she wasn't a cruel, murderous vampire. Drinking blood was just instinct. She was relatively friendly to humans, having done both good and bad deeds. As long as she could save her mother, she was willing to pay any price and do anything.

Although her actual age wasn't small, her appearance and mental state were very young. While she used manipulative tactics, her tactics were... a mixed bag.

To save her mother, she actively approached Jeremy.

What was Jeremy like at the time?

Due to his parents' death, his personality had changed drastically. He did drugs, sold drugs, and was a total simp. One could say he had no redeeming qualities, no shining points.

And the result?

Anna actually fell in love with him.

From this point alone, one could tell that Anna definitely didn't have a scheming, insidious, or cunning personality.
