Lina nodded as she examined the dungeon with open curiosity. Although it lay beneath the palace, torches had been mounted along the walls, illuminating the passage so thoroughly that it was almost as bright as daylight. The corridor stretched roughly thirty metres, with more than twenty prison cells arranged along its length. Each cell was enclosed by stone railings, and the floors were covered with thick layers of straw. The straw was surprisingly clean, suggesting that the guards took their duties seriously.
Lina had declared a general amnesty when she assumed power, so there was currently only one prisoner in the entire dungeon: Altaïr, the mercenary leader known as the Mad Dog.
