Chapter 26 - CHAPTER 27: SECRET BOSS FIGHT

Date: 23rd July 2026

Location: The Ashen Crypt (Boss Chamber - The Silent Cathedral)

Time: 08:45 PM BST

We skidded violently into the final chamber. The crude wheels of my makeshift Tesla-Hoverboard screeched loudly against the polished black marble floor.

The massive room was a terrifying cathedral of inverted, impossible gothic architecture.

Thick, jagged pillars stretched downward into a bottomless, swirling void rather than reaching up to support a ceiling. The heavy, dead air smelled strongly of burning bone and ancient ozone. Absolute silence fell heavily into the dark abyss below and simply never returned.

In the exact dead center of the room, sitting heavily on a massive throne forged entirely from fused human spines, was the Bone-King.

To anyone else, it was a terrifying, nightmare-inducing sight.

To my 999 INT, it was just a classic, boring Level 1 Boss. Big, rusty sword. Glowing, highly predictable red eyes. Slow, heavily telegraphed attack patterns. It was literally a 'Tutorial Boss', specifically designed by the System to make terrified newbies feel somewhat competent.

"Primary target visually acquired," Dexter grunted flatly, heavily hefting his massive great sword onto his broad shoulder. "Health bar is incredibly small. Speedrun entirely doable."

"Boring," a loud, theatrical voice yawned from the darkness above us.

Lilith floated slowly down from the shadows. She was hovering cross-legged in the freezing air.

She casually finished her large bag of flaming Cheetos, loudly licked the toxic orange dust off her sharp claws, and looked down at the terrifying Bone-King with the absolute disdain of a pro-gamer looking at a low-poly, broken NPC.

"This is far too easy for you, Mason," Lilith complained loudly, a wicked, sadistic glint flashing in her golden eyes.

"You literally brought a Grandmaster Assassin, a walking Glitch, and a highly unstable Kinetic Battery to a pathetic tutorial fight." Lilith pouted. "If you lot violently execute this pathetic guy in three seconds flat, my live viewership ratings in the Nether-Void are going to absolutely tank."

"Lilith, do not bloody dare," I warned sharply, quickly stepping off my hoverboard and instantly stashing it away into my [Inventory (Lv. 9)].

"Admin privileges, babe," she smirked wickedly, casually tapping the empty air in front of her.

A massive, glowing holographic keyboard instantly materialized out of the dark ether. Her sharp, black claws flew violently across the digital keys.

"Relax, Mason. I literally only get one major encounter edit per dungeon instance."

She grinned a highly predatory smile. "Let's just aggressively add a zero to his base HP... significantly increase his Agility by roughly 400%... oh, and let's give him the [Abyssal Armour] cosmetic set. That always looks incredibly cute on stream."

[SYSTEM ALERT: MASSIVE DUNGEON ANOMALY DETECTED]

[ADMINISTRATOR 'LILITH' HAS MALICIOUSLY MODIFIED THE ENCOUNTER]

[ADMIN MODIFICATION LIMIT REACHED]

[FORCED BOSS EVOLUTION IN PROCESS...]

The Bone-King suddenly roared.

But instead of the dry, dusty rattle of ancient bones, it was a deafening, metallic screech that violently rattled our teeth.

Thick, jagged obsidian armour aggressively plated itself over the fragile skeleton. The rusty, slow broadsword violently dissolved and instantly reformed into a massive, jagged, crackling violet energy blade.

The terrifying creature physically grew ten feet taller. Its dull red eyes suddenly ignited, turning a blinding, radioactive star-white.

[BOSS EVOLUTION COMPLETE]

[NEW TARGET: THE OBSIDIAN WARLORD (SECRET BOSS)]

[LEVEL: ???]

"You absolute, unmitigated muppet," I sighed heavily, casually adjusting my jacket cuffs. "You just violently turned a basic Tutorial into a full-scale Raid Boss."

"Have fun!" Lilith cheered brightly, happily summoning a massive, floating popcorn bucket from the void. "If you all violently die, I'm legally keeping the hoverboard!"

Vlad took a sharp step backward. His usually calm, elegant face was incredibly pale.

"This... this is absolutely not natural. That raw atmospheric pressure... it's physically heavier than a specialized gravity training chamber. Mason, we absolutely should, "

"We should kill it," Dexter interrupted flatly.

A grin, a very rare, highly terrifying, feral grin, suddenly split Dexter's heavy face. "Hard mode officially unlocked."

"Highly valid," Tiffany agreed loudly, though she was nervously bouncing on the balls of her feet. "But like... that glowing sword is absolutely huge, Mason. If that thing even casually clips me, I'm literally going to be a red smear on the marble floor."

"Then do not get hit," I said. My voice was completely calm, cold, and absolute.

My 999 INT was already rapidly dissecting the new, heavily modified enemy's structural weaknesses.

"Tactical Formation B. Dexter, draw absolute aggro. Vlad, ruthlessly sever the primary leg tendons. Tiffany, stay entirely airborne. I'll personally handle the local timeline."

The Warlord didn't bother to wait for a polite countdown.

It moved with a terrifying, blinding speed that absolutely shouldn't be physically possible for something of that massive size and density.

BOOM.

The massive violet energy blade crashed violently down exactly where Dexter had been casually standing a single millisecond before.

The sheer kinetic shockwave instantly shattered the thick marble floor, sending razor-sharp debris flying outward like lethal shrapnel.

"Go!" I commanded sharply.

[SKILL: ACCELERATION A (Lv. 3)]

[SKILL: OVERCLOCK MIND (Lv. 9)]

I didn't just run. I fluidly glided.

My newly stabilized VIT (15.0) and massively boosted STA (20.0) meant my fragile human body could finally, smoothly execute the complex commands my brain was transmitting. I moved exactly like rushing water.

"Dexter!" I yelled over the deafening roar.

Dexter violently caught the Warlord's massive backswing directly with his rusted greatsword.

CLANG.

A blinding shower of bright orange sparks aggressively illuminated the dark room.

The sheer kinetic impact forced Dexter to slide backward exactly ten feet. His heavy boots literally carved deep, smoking grooves into the solid stone floor, but he firmly, stubbornly held the line.

"Heavy," Dexter grunted approvingly. "Good."

Vlad was a terrifying, lethal blur of silver.

[Phantom Edge].

He struck the Warlord's thick knee joints once, twice, ten distinct times in a single second. But Lilith's obsidian armour was simply too thick. His lethal strikes were violently bouncing off, leaving only shallow scratches.

"It's completely impenetrable!" Vlad hissed angrily, barely dodging a massive backhand swat that would have instantly decapitated him. "I desperately need a physical opening!"

"Tiffany! Distraction!" I ordered sharply.

"On it, boss!" Tiffany launched herself violently off a broken stone pillar.

[Kinetic Burst].

She instantly became a highly destructive pink and violet missile, slamming boots-first directly into the side of the Warlord's armored helmet.

The physical impact didn't do any real damage, but it deeply, violently annoyed him. The Warlord roared in frustration, blindly swatting at her like an annoying summer fly.

"Now," I whispered coldly.

The Warlord raised its massive energy sword high for a devastating, wide-area sweep.

It was a completely unavoidable, lethal attack. Dexter was entirely too slow to block the full arc. Vlad was trapped too close to the blast radius. Tiffany was stuck mid-air with absolutely no physical leverage to dodge.

Perfect.

I tapped my heavy Aether-Cane sharply on the cracked marble ground.

[SYSTEM COMMAND: TIME-STOP]

[DURATION: 12.5 SECONDS]

The entire, chaotic world instantly turned a flat, dead grey.

The deafening roar of the monster cut out completely. The flying, razor-sharp marble debris hung perfectly suspended in the cold air. The violent, crackling violet energy of the massive sword froze mid-arc like a broken photograph.

In the past, aggressively using this skill for more than a second would have instantly given me a massive, fatal heart attack.

Now? With my heavily modified, elixir-fuelled body? It physically felt like taking a deep, refreshing breath of cold air.

I walked calmly forward.

I didn't rush. I didn't sprint. I casually strolled through the violently frozen battlefield with the sheer, unadulterated elegance of a wealthy man browsing a quiet art gallery.

Step 1: I calmly reached Dexter.

His defensive stance was structurally off by exactly two inches. I grabbed his massive shoulder and shoved him slightly to the left. I carefully angled his heavy sword so the incoming deflecting blow wouldn't completely shatter his right wrist.

Step 2: I walked smoothly over to Vlad.

He was trapped mid-dodge, but his expensive suit coattail was definitely going to get lethally clipped by the energy blade. I neatly, carefully tucked his jacket completely in.

"Incredibly sloppy tailoring today, Vlad," I muttered softly to the frozen assassin.

Step 3: I briefly looked up at Tiffany, frozen solidly in mid-air above the chaos. Her trajectory was perfectly clear. She was completely safe.

Step 4: The Obsidian Warlord.

I walked casually right up to the frozen, towering giant. I intensely scanned the thick obsidian armour. My [Aether-Sight] easily, flawlessly revealed the microscopic, structural stress-fractures hidden deep in the heavy joints.

"You possess entirely too much health," I whispered coldly to the frozen monster. "Let's permanently fix that."

I smoothly drew the hidden, lethal sword completely concealed within my Aether-Cane. It was a vicious, crackling blade forged of pure Tesla-coils and raw energy.

I didn't just slash once. I slashed exactly fifty times.

[SKILL: AFTER IMAGE (Lv. 1) - OVERCHARGED]

I moved like a localized blur around the frozen boss, leaving a confusing, lingering trail of violet 'ghosts' in the air.

I precisely struck the back of the knee, the heavy elbow joint, the tiny, exposed gap in the thick neck armour, and the central core.

I aggressively poured raw, highly volatile Entropy into every single cut, actively planting invisible 'Time-Bombs' that would violently detonate the exact moment the timeline resumed.

I calmly sheathed my cane with a sharp click.

I walked smoothly back to my exact original position on the floor, casually checked my gold Chrono-watch, and smoothed my messy hair.

"Play," I whispered softly.

[TIME RESUME]

[SYSTEM WARNING: TEMPORAL FATIGUE INCURRED. COOLDOWN ACTIVATED: 3 HOURS.]

SNAP.

The chaotic world exploded violently back into deafening colour and sound.

But the Warlord didn't manage to swing his massive sword.

K-K-K-K-CRACK!

Fifty glowing, violent slash marks appeared on its heavy obsidian body simultaneously.

The thick armour at the knees violently shattered into dust. The heavy helmet cracked loudly down the middle. The massive chest plate exploded violently outward in a shower of black shrapnel.

[CRITICAL HIT x50]

[INVISIBLE DAMAGE APPLIED]

The towering Warlord screamed a deafening, metallic sound of pure, unadulterated confusion.

Its massive, artificial health bar violently plummeted from a perfect 100% down to a pathetic 48% in a single, impossible frame. It collapsed heavily to one knee, the massive physical impact violently shaking the entire dungeon.

"What the bloody hell?!" Vlad yelled, staring in absolute, terrified shock at the kneeling boss.

"I literally didn't see him move! I didn't see absolutely anything! The impenetrable armour just... violently exploded!"

Dexter, whose heavy sword I had precisely adjusted, naturally, flawlessly deflected the monster's weak, stumbling follow-up attack.

He looked down closely at his perfectly adjusted footing. He looked up at me. He nodded slowly. "Good assist."

"Did you guys seriously just see that?!" Tiffany yelled, landing safely on her feet. "Mason literally just glitched! He actively lagged the bloody server!"

Lilith completely stopped eating her popcorn.

She floated slowly down lower, her solid golden eyes wide with genuine, terrified shock. She was an Admin. She could read the raw backend data logs.

"You..." Lilith whispered, pointing a trembling claw at me.

"You completely stopped time. And your nose didn't even bleed. You literally walked around, casually fixed your friends' posture, brutally beat up my upgraded boss, and simply walked back to your spot."

Lilith scowled deeply. "That's... that's actually, officially cheating."

I exhaled slowly. A small, cold puff of steam escaped my lips, the absolute only physical sign that the massive temporal recoil was starting to catch up with my internal organs.

"It's absolutely not cheating, Lilith," I called out, my cold voice echoing loudly in the silent cathedral. "It's simply aggressive optimization."

The heavily damaged Warlord roared again, violently pulling itself back up. The shattered obsidian armour was rapidly reforming, glowing a furious, highly unstable molten red.

[BOSS PHASE 2: BERSERK MODE INITIATED]

"He's incredibly mad now," Vlad noted coldly, tightly gripping his lethal daggers. "Phase 2."

I smirked darkly, casually tapping my Aether-Cane on the marble floor again. I didn't even look slightly tired. I looked profoundly, aggressively bored.

"Phase 2?" I chuckled loudly.

The Tesla 1.5 Core hummed violently around me, cracking the air with violet static. "How incredibly cute. I haven't even bothered to use my left hand yet."

I looked calmly at the squad.

"Dex, aggressively take the legs. Vlad, completely gouge the eyes. Tiff, just keep being incredibly annoying."

"Aye aye, Captain!" Tiffany saluted brightly, sparks flying from her sneakers.

"Lilith," I shouted casually up to the stunned admin. "Get the bloody loot chest completely ready. I still have a 9:00 AM thermodynamics lecture tomorrow."

[ELIZA'S SUMMARY]

["I absolutely must admit, Mason, that was undeniably, profoundly cool."]

["You literally treated the fundamental laws of physics exactly like a mild suggestion."]

["You casually fixed Dexter's posture and actively tucked in Vlad's shirt while the entire timeline was frozen?"]

["That is a level of unadulterated, petty arrogance that I can truly, deeply respect."]

["The Tesla Core is currently running incredibly hot, but your brand new biological body is perfectly handling the strain.*]

["You aren't just a desperate Architect anymore, Pryce. You're an active Speedrunner."]

["And poor Lilith... she looks exactly like she just helplessly watched someone beat her favourite, hardest game using a plastic dance pad."]

["Finish it, Mason. The demonic popcorn is getting stale."]
