Chapter 37 - Chapter 37: Canine Evolution

"Sigh… My chakra growth has plateaued again. The effects of monster meat are getting weaker and weaker. If I want to keep getting stronger, I'll either need some special 'trash'… or just wait for my body to grow."

Ruo Feng muttered to himself as he stood calmly atop the surface of a pond, not sinking in the slightest.

He had already mastered the basic Water Surface Walking Technique—an essential chakra control exercise taught to Academy students in Konoha. His chakra control had improved steadily.

But his age was still a limitation.

His young body could only extract a limited amount of chakra. Forcing more would damage his cells and hinder his future development. So Ruo Feng maintained his current reserves and focused on refining control without harming himself.

His hands formed seals.

A faint spark of flame flickered in his palm—then instantly extinguished.

"Still not good…"

He exhaled and stepped lightly off the water, walking toward the small pavilion in the courtyard. The pond wasn't large—just an artificial pool within his home grounds.

After sitting down, he took a sip of tea and reflected.

"Maintaining water walking requires constant chakra output. The Great Fireball Technique demands explosive release all at once. Doing both simultaneously means precise allocation of chakra… This really is a challenge."

Ever since mastering water walking, he had searched his grandfather's notes for advanced control exercises. He found a method designed specifically for shinobi with small chakra reserves—teaching them how to distribute chakra efficiently and waste nothing.

Ruo Feng had been practicing it.

But balancing sustained output and instant burst proved far more difficult than expected.

After a long silence, he noticed moonlight spilling across the courtyard.

He stood and retrieved a scroll hidden inside a compartment in his bedroom wall.

Forming seals, he whispered, "Summoning Technique."

"Bang—!"

A puff of white smoke filled the room.

Ruo Feng vanished.

Beast King Mountain – Hall of the Canines

"Bang—!"

White smoke dissipated inside the grand hall, revealing Ruo Feng's figure.

He scanned the vast, empty chamber.

"No dogs here again?"

This morning, when his Sharingan activated, he had come here and found the hall empty. And now it was the same.

Was this palace off-limits to the clan unless summoned?

Though puzzled, he didn't dwell on it. Instead, he unsealed the scroll he had brought.

"Release."

The sealing formula faded, revealing various stored items.

Among them—a monster egg from the Swallowed Star world.

Ruo Feng picked it up.

"I wonder what will hatch from this…"

He carefully placed a porcelain bottle in a hidden corner of the hall. Inside was Foundation Establishment Spiritual Liquid—an extremely precious resource to him.

Keeping it at home was too risky. Without a storage ring or spatial equipment, Beast King Mountain was the safest vault available. The entire canine clan was bound to him through contract.

Here, his treasures were secure.

After organizing everything, he carried the egg outside the hall.

The moment he stepped out—

"ROOOOAAAR—!!!"

A thunderous howl erupted, whipping up fierce winds.

Ruo Feng froze.

"What…?! That's the Ghost-Faced Mastiff King? How did it get so huge?!"

Yesterday, the mastiff had stood barely a meter tall.

Now—

It towered dozens of meters high, comparable in size to Gamabunta of Mount Myōboku.

Even summoning beasts didn't grow this fast.

What was going on? Steroids?

"That's impossible. The clan's seal hasn't been lifted yet… so how did it grow this large?"

The massive mastiff lowered its head. Its once-black pupils now glowed blood-red.

"Master…"

Its voice was awkward and young, like a child who had just learned to speak.

Ruo Feng's shock deepened.

"What happened to you?"

The Ghost-Faced Mastiff King seemed equally confused.

"I'm not sure… but it's not just me. The others changed too."

As it spoke, several enormous heads rose into view behind it.

Ruo Feng swallowed.

"Husky… American Bully… Bulldog… Alaskan Malamute… How are you all this big?!"

Eight gigantic canines stood before him, each rivaling Gamabunta's size. The American Bully was even larger.

This made no sense.

He had already arranged to obtain sealing knowledge from Mikoto. Once he mastered it, he intended to help remove the suppression seal placed on the canine clan.

But now—

Had the seals broken on their own?

The Husky—clearly the most intelligent—spoke.

"Master… a strange energy strengthened our flesh and blood. It shattered the seals from within. The entire canine clan has evolved."

Ruo Feng's heart pounded.

"A strange energy?"

The Alaskan Malamute added, "Yes. It seems to have come from the 'trash' you threw here yesterday."

"WHAT?!"

Ruo Feng's eyes widened.

He stared at the Ghost-Faced Mastiff King.

"Don't tell me… you were infected by the RR Virus from the Swallowed Star world… and collectively evolved?! But in that world, countless animals died during mutation!"

Yet—

That was the only explanation.

Nearly ten thousand canines… all evolving at once.

He leapt upward, landing atop the Ghost-Faced Mastiff King's head.

"Take me to the place where I dumped the trash yesterday."

The massive mastiff obeyed instantly, charging forward across Beast King Mountain—now no longer a silent sanctuary, but a land of awakening beasts.
