Chapter 37 - Episode 37 – The Choice of a King

Countdown: 08:41

The room felt smaller.

Every second sounded louder.

Sasmita stared at the screen.

"My childhood home…"

Her voice was barely stable.

Srikant didn't panic.

He observed.

Always observe first.

"Zoom feed," he ordered.

Screen enlarged.

House looked normal.

No visible movement.

No smoke.

No guards.

Too clean.

"Thermal scan," he said.

Analyst hesitated.

"Sir… there's no heat signature."

"What?"

"No human presence inside or around."

Silence.

Sasmita looked confused.

"Then why the countdown?"

Srikant's eyes sharpened.

"Because it's not about the house."

The Realization

Suddenly—

Another alert.

Estate main gate security offline.

Three cameras dead.

At the exact same time the countdown started.

Srikant turned slowly.

"He wants me out."

Sasmita understood.

"This is distraction."

"Yes."

And the moment he said that—

Explosion sound echoed far outside.

Not massive.

But close enough to shake glass.

Security rushed in.

"Sir! Outer west perimeter breached!"

Rudra wasn't attacking her past.

He was attacking their present.

Controlled Response

Everyone expected Srikant to rush out.

But he didn't.

He closed his eyes for two seconds.

Then gave orders calmly:

"Activate internal lockdown."

"Seal north wing."

"Deploy silent unit 3."

His voice wasn't angry.

It was surgical.

Sasmita watched him carefully.

This was the strategist Rudra built.

But this version—

Was different.

Not reckless.

Not ego-driven.

Focused.

Meanwhile – Outside Estate

Masked operatives moved like shadows.

Precision.

Professional.

They weren't random criminals.

They were trained.

From a distant building—

Rudra Sen observed through high-range lens.

"He didn't move," one of his men said.

Rudra smiled slightly.

"Good. He's learning."

"Should we proceed phase two?"

Rudra's eyes didn't leave the estate.

"Yes."

Inside – Unexpected Threat

Suddenly—

Internal system alarm triggered.

"Sir… someone hacked internal generator control!"

Lights flickered.

Backup system struggling.

This wasn't just physical attack.

It was cyber + physical combo.

Classic Rudra pattern.

Create pressure from multiple angles.

Force emotional mistake.

Sasmita stepped forward.

"Tell me what to do."

Srikant looked at her.

"You stay here."

"No."

Her eyes were firm.

"You said I'm part of the board. Then let me stand on it."

For a second—

He saw not vulnerability.

But strength.

"Fine," he said.

"Stay beside me."

The Twist

Countdown on screen reached:

00:30

00:29

00:28

Even though they knew it was distraction—

They couldn't ignore it.

00:05

00:04

00:03

00:00

Nothing happened.

No explosion.

No fire.

Just silence.

Then—

New message appeared.

"Good choice."

And below it—

Live drone footage.

Estate west perimeter.

Srikant's security team had captured two intruders.

Rudra's voice played calmly:

"See? You protected your present instead of chasing your past."

Pause.

"But can you protect both forever?"

Screen changed again.

New image.

Hospital corridor.

Sasmita's father's room.

Live.

Her breath froze.

"No…"

Rudra's voice softened.

"This game is about endurance, my student."

Srikant's jaw tightened.

"You won't touch him."

Rudra chuckled lightly.

"I don't need to. Fear does the work."

Feed cut.

Emotional Shift

Room finally stabilized.

Attack neutralized.

Damage minimal.

But message clear.

This wasn't a one-night war.

It was psychological warfare.

Sasmita turned toward Srikant.

"He's not trying to destroy you."

"No."

"He's trying to prove something."

"Yes."

"That love makes you unstable."

Srikant looked at her quietly.

"Does it?"

She didn't answer immediately.

Instead—

She walked closer.

Held his hand.

And said softly—

"Then let's become stronger together."

For the first time since Rudra reappeared—

Srikant smiled slightly.

Not arrogant.

Not confident.

But certain.

"If he wants endurance," Srikant said calmly,

"We'll give him a war he can't calculate."

Final Scene

Far away.

Rudra watched final report.

"No casualties, sir."

He nodded.

"Good."

"Next move?"

Rudra looked at city lights.

"Now we remove the emotional shield."

Pause.

"Bring her into the center of the game."

Camera slowly zoomed to silver ring on his finger.

War had officially begun.
