Chapter 18 - Chapter 18—Dungeon Exploration(II)

HOOOOOO!

The train arrived at long last. After an hour of waiting, Ryan was already mentally exhausted.

Soon the booth operator announced over the microphone calling the specific train numbers.

Ryan looked at his ticket, as he was now fully able to confirm this was his train.

As the train slowed to a halt, Ryan and every other passenger waiting began standing up and walking towards the train.

As they were getting to the train, a guard at the checkpoint before the train stopped them as he asked them individually for their tickets.

As they handed the tickets over to him, he would swipe it on a counter. Once the check light turned from red to green, it meant the ticket was authentic.

Once Ryan was through the checkpoint, he entered the train and sat down.

'Haa.' Ryan sighed as he looked around the interior of the train.

The train itself wasn't bad. It's just, he took economy class. And there was no way economy was comparable to VIP class like he was used to boarding.

[] G.A.I.A asked.

'Because VIP class are only available from intercity movement. Within the city or just outskirts have only economy.' Ryan explained, sighing even deeper.

'Not like I could even afford it.' He added inwardly. Amongst the many issues he would be facing, this was another one.

Finance. Right now, his family had cut him off meaning he didn't have the billions available to the Ainsworth family and so he couldn't spend it willy nilly.

Thankfully at the moment, he still had about a million credits still in his account, so that would have to do till he came up with a way to earn money for himself.

'Haaa. So much still to do.' He sighed heavily at the thought of it.

[] G.A.I.A added, more in a teasing manner to poke fun at him.

Soon, the announcement came from the speakers as they made one final boarding call.

Five minutes later, the doors of the train closed as it began moving forward.

HOOOOOO!!!

The train blew it's enormous horns as it left the station and out into the city.

[] G.A.I.A asked.

'A cab can't take us where we're going.' Ryan simply responded as he closed his eyes and wore earphones on his ears.

'Besides a cab probably would've been extremely expensive soo...' He added casually.

[] G.A.I.A said.

...

'Fuck you.' Ryan grumbled inwardly as he proceeded to ignore G.A.I.A for the rest of the journey.

*********

After about an hour, the train arrived near the walls of the city.

[] G.A.I.A commented in almost awe, seeing the gigantic eighty foot tall wall that was built around the city.

'Yep. You wouldn't guess it if you were born within the city and never left, but this city has large walls built around it.

Due to the sheer size of the city, you'd hardly ever see it unless you're leaving the city.' Ryan said, more in soliloquy than anything else.

[] That was all G.A.I.A said in response.

As the train got closer, or rather, the car they were in got closer to the wall, the military personnel stationed became visible.

They wore black uniforms and bore the insignia of the federation.

Armored vehicles were around the wall. There were even mounted weapons atop the wall as well.

[] G.A.I.A asked.

'Believe it or not, nothing. This is how it always is. It's how it is in most cities and in most districts.'

[] G.A.I.A asked.

A question that soon answered itself as they moved past the wall and into the outskirts of the city.

'That's why.' Ryan answered.

Outside the city, was a ruined world. Dungeon beasts reigned supreme as they moved about killing anything in their way.

Currently the train was only safe due to a transparent metal tunnel it travelled in.

[] G.A.I.A asked.

'This is earth. A thousand years after the first gate opened.'
