TAVRIC
"I don't think the princess would be happy with her front door being broken when she wakes up hours from now… and it definitely won't keep the Khy'lins away if they continue their hunt today."
I purse my lips at Jaxl's observation, but the logic doesn't stop the irritation simmering in my gut. It certainly doesn't stop me from kicking the door a second time—this time, with enough force to snap the wood clean off its hinges. It isn't my fault the princess left her keys in the purse her friends are currently with.
The door falls backward with a heavy, final thud, finally granting us a view of the interior the princess had denied me a year ago.
"Tavric…" Jaxl's voice is a warning, a plea for sanity that I'm not ready to hear.
"She will be fine. I'll make sure of that," I answer, my voice low and gravelly. I step carefully over the threshold, my boots silent on the floorboards as Jaxl follows.
