Chapter 5 - Chapter 5: Caesar

Caesar really found his new pet so amusing. Even after all that grumbling about a not being a pet, he felt her follow behind him in silence until they reached her room. He watched her walk into the room and head straight for the bed and curled herself up on it like a cat. She shifted in discomfort a bit from his presence but soon fell asleep. That panic attack took a lot out of her.

Earlier Caesar had made his way back from the gym on the west side of his estate, when he happened upon a very intriguing scene. His little pet and stumbled in a den of wolves who bite first and ask questions never. That is the very reason he chose them to be part of his employ. But much to his surprise, the wolves did not bite, if anything they warned, guns drawn and hands lingering over trigger. This was something they never did.

He listened to their entire interaction. When the hands holding guns itched to shot at the little lamb due to her own stubbornness, Caesar heard the most amusing thing ever, "I am your boss's 40 mil." He had almost let out a loud hearty laugh at heard those words from her lips. With as much pride as the girl had, he could not help but wonder just how many amusing things he would witness shadowing his little firecracker.

Then he had watched her move, almost like an animal driven by instinct towards something. He simply followed behind. And had found her standing in the garden. He watched her intensely. She picked a black rose, and he saw a wave of sadness pass through her. Caesar felt it before she reacted, the tensing of her muscles then her breathing hastened. He watched as she collapsed, writhing in the pain of her memories.

"Pathetic." He murmured as he made his way over to her but then something amazing happened that had Caesar pause in his steps. She stopped. She stopped writhing, her shallow breathing regained ground. He watched her open her eyes, regulate her breathing and get up from the ground, stumbling at first but soon gaining control over her body.

This sight was beautiful to him. he had watched something marvellous. His eyes had widened with the realisation that his money was well spent on her. Caesar had witnessed in real time the lamb bring itself from the jaws of death and swallowing darkness by sheer force of will.

The whole deal had him convinced he wanted to see more of what his little firecracker was capable of. And though he would not fully admit it, the scene had been such a turn on.

Pushing the logic at the back he had approached her with the intent to satiate that very lust. But when he looked into her eyes, he found fight, lots of it. Though it did not dim his light, if anything it seemed to flare it. There was, however, the wave of sadness and fear that flickered through those eyes that had him pause. Pathetic. Pitiful. Now that had wet his flame. He was never one to fuck sad sorry women. It has no life to it.

So instead of walking away Caesar and tried to stoke her flames using words to eat away at her pride and like he knew she would, she caved. She had slapped him with a fire that made her truly worthy of his nickname for her, but it dies just as quickly. Replaced with tensity, fear and a level of uncertainty. He found such emotions a bore.

Caesar had let go and decided to go back to his work. Then he felt her behind him like a little lost lamb, which she was. She did not know her way around the manor. So, just this once, he decided to grant her mercy.

As soon as Caesar closed the door to her room, felt K pull up right next to him. "Got her a doctor to check up on her. And someone to attend to her basic needs." K made a note. "Find anything?"

"No, unfortunately." K reported, "The auction house records are not extensive enough to give us any information on her identity. Though I did find that she has been traveling from auction house to auction house. I have some on the guys tracing that line hoping to find something."

"So, she is basically a Jane doe."

"Well currently, that is our predicament." Caesar turned to face his aide with a raised brow. K let out a sigh then explained. "I just mean that it is a predicament we can solve."

"How? Amuse me K." Caesar said as he stood and waited for his aide to give him an answer.

"Well, you will be shocked at how easy this solution is." K began with sarcasm only someone who had faced life and death at the Don's side could ever be brave enough to muster, "Ask her."

K gave his boss a look that clearly said that this was in fact common sense. Of course, as much as Caesar wanted to, they both know he would never really strangle the life out of his most trusted.

After the look murderous stare K continued, "I am serous here Don, just talk to the girl and by talk I do not mean provoke her."

"Where is the fun in that?" Caesar casually asked.

"Fine the I will do it myself." K caved. He knew that this was how things would play out, that such a task would again be left in his care, yet he still pushed, mostly to annoy the Don. "What do you plan to do with her anyway?" K suddenly asked as the question popped into his head.

"Toy with her until I am bored." Again, Caesar gave a casual answer.

"Then what happens after." K eyed him carefully, searching for a hint of something, maybe something human.

But Caesar just flashed him smile, "I have not yet decided." He paused for a brief second before resuming his steps. "Well, I did promise to grant her freedom should she prove worth my money. So, there is that option too."

Caesar heard his aide sigh yet again then change the subject, "Your father sent you another task." Caesar's aloof air disappeared and was replaced with the tension that come with the seriousness of his work. "He said this one is crucial for securing the position so you should keep an eye out for the scavenger."

"Hmm." The Don hummed, "Take care of the things I assigned to you. I will take the other two with me, call on Tez and Rick to my office."

Caesar commanded and walked off to his study to make a call to his father regarding this job he was landing on his lap. He made it inside the room, poured himself a drink then lit a cigar. He sat himself down on his chair and made the call.

"Caesar?" a gruff voice rang out from the speaker phone.

"Details. That is all." He spoke indifferently.

The two were told far too many times about how similarly cold and brutelike they are. They have never been bothered by it, mostly for Caesar, because he found the very comparison ridiculous. But moments like the phone call, Caesar could not help but see what those people meant.

"Port. Matthais. Traitor." The man went silent giving him a bit of time to inquire about the things he could not understand but he understood loud and clear then continued, "I trust you will treat him well."

"Very." Was all Caesar mustered for a response.

"Good." The man said the paused yet again for the very reason, "Heard from Richardson, you got yourself an item from the auction."

Caesar let out a disgusted grunt. "He sure knows how to use that mouth of his. My patience in him is running low."

His father chuckled clearly aware of the monster he had created, "If it does then find him a replacement on your side and easy to control. Make opportunities for yourself by using his misfortune to your advantage."

"I know. Much like Thompson."

"I see you understand."

"Anything else?"

"So that item?" he asked diverting the back to the girl.

"I am sure you already know everything, so why ask?"

"I suppose. Just don't get distracted."

"I do not intend to." He said and dropped the call. That was how their conversations always went, always so cold and clinical. He preferred it that way, though the old man has been invested in what he does more than ever. It was honesty annoying.

There was a knock on the door. He gave a permission to enter, and the door opened slightly to bring into view, the two men he called for.

"How was the call with the old man?" Tez asked, the man had been with his family for as long as he remembered. Tez had always been comfortable enough to talk his mind.

"Same old." Caeser got up from his chair heading for the door, "Come on. We have a rat to catch."
