Cliff's POV
When I woke up today, I wasn't planning to have this conversation. Worst of all, with her out of all people. Why was I even confessing to her? But seeing her laugh like that, I couldn't stop.
I had no intention of saying those things. It was just the past. Something that I felt as a teenager, not something I still feel anyway. Her dead eyes flickered with emotion when she saw the ring, and I wanted to keep playing along.
It wasn't that big of a deal for me. I just bought it after seeing her take a few glances at it in the jewelry store. I didn't think she liked it that much. At most, I thought she was interested in how it looked. It was just a ring in my book. I wasn't even thinking of getting it back after our contract ends. It wasn't even that expensive.
However, when Cathy looked at me with those eyes, questioning if she could keep it after our contract expires, I couldn't help but take advantage. More like I wanted to see how far she would agree for it.
