Chapter 165: New Trainer in Town
After leaving New Bark Town, Ash's group headed towards Violet City, where the nearest Gym was located.
Misty recalled Totodile's adorable appearance, "Totodile looks so cute! I really want one too."
"Misty, didn't Professor Elm say he could give you one? Didn't you refuse?" Ash asked, puzzled.
After they found Totodile, Professor Elm wanted to offer one of the First Generation Starters to each of the three as a reward. After consulting them, Ash declined the offer.
"Professor Elm's First Generation Starters should be saved for Newcomer Trainers. There should be plenty of wild Totodile in Johto."
Misty still preferred to catch a wild one. Besides, Ash was the one who found Totodile, and Ash didn't accept Professor Elm's kindness, so how could she, being thin-skinned, accept it?
"I still prefer Cyndaquil," Brock also recalled Cyndaquil's appearance.
"..."
Ash was speechless. Are these two guys perhaps eyeing his future Pokémon?
Ash definitely wouldn't give up that dancing Totodile. After all, he wanted to participate in the Grand Festival in Hoenn and Sinnoh. A dancing and lively Totodile would be a perfect stage performer. If he were to give it an evolution stone, even if it evolved into a Feraligatr, it could still change back to its original Totodile form.
As for that Cyndaquil, Ash wouldn't miss the chance to catch it if he could.
Just then, a battle where a Newcomer Trainer was catching a wild Pokémon caught the attention of the three.
The Newcomer Trainer was a girl wearing a baseball uniform with yellow stripes.
"Chikorita, use Tackle!"
Chikorita spun the leaf on its head and charged towards Rattata.
Rattata sidestepped a few steps, avoiding the Tackle.
"So that's Chikorita," Brock said.
[Pokémon: Chikorita]
[Type: Grass]
[Gender: Female]
[Level: Normal Advanced]
[Ability: Overgrow]
[Potential: Gym]
[Skills: Omitted.....]
Ash glanced at Chikorita's level. "Hmm, she must be the Newcomer Trainer Professor Elm mentioned who left yesterday."
"She has a bandana tied on Chikorita's head, it looks even cuter!" Misty's eyes were practically glued to that Chikorita.
Indeed, the First Generation Starters of Johto are quite cute in their initial forms, but after evolution, they are somewhat hard to describe. To say they look good, there's always a feeling of being a bit off, but to say they don't look good, they are more appealing than most Pokémon.
"The first ball was a foul, but there's still a chance for a second ball! Chikorita, use Tackle again!"
Chikorita turned and vigorously charged at Rattata. This hit caused Rattata to lose its ability to battle.
"Success! Rattata was defeated by Chikorita's attack! Now's the time, to catch it!"
The girl took out a Poké Ball and, with a perfectly standard baseball throw, tossed the ball towards Rattata.
After catching Rattata, the girl held the Poké Ball and began to sing, while Chikorita cooperated by waving the leaf on its head.
To Ash and his group, this scene looked utterly childish.
But Ash had to admit, this girl and Chikorita were a good match, and her training ability was also very good. In such a short time after getting the Pokémon, she had already molded Chikorita into her own style.
After the girl finished celebrating, she turned and saw Ash's group, stunneding for a few seconds. As if seeing something that attracted her, she rushed towards them, her fierce appearance startling Ash and the others.
However, the girl rushed over and, without a word, snatched Pikachu from Ash's shoulder. "Pikachu? Is this a real Pikachu? Yahoo! This golden touch, and the patterns on its back, I can't take it anymore!"
She grabbed Pikachu and rubbed it all over her face.
"Booyah?" (The yellow-skinned rodent is gone, so now I can have Ash all to myself?)
Eevee, who was perched on Ash's other shoulder, saw this scene and fantasized about having Ash all to herself. She had been annoyed with Pikachu for a long time.
Pikachu saw the girl squeezing tighter and tighter, and the electric sacs on its cheeks gradually emitted faint currents.
"Pikachu, wait a minute....."
Before Ash could finish speaking, Pikachu released electricity.
"So numb.....Rattata...."
The electric current directly stunned the girl.
"Ugh... What a mess."
Ash was speechless. There are all sorts of people these days.
Fortunately, Pikachu held back its power, otherwise, the girl would probably not just be unconscious, but would need to be hospitalized for recovery.
Ash quietly used Natural Power to heal the girl a bit. "Are you okay?"
"N-no, I'm fine, just a tiny bit numb....." The girl responded with difficulty.
After the group found a shady spot to sit down, they introduced themselves. It turned out the girl's name was Casey, and she lived in New Bark Town. She had only started her journey yesterday. Because her family had formed an Electabuzz baseball team, she had loved yellow Pokémon since she was a child, which was why she was so excited when she saw Pikachu.
"You're from the Kanto region? Ash, Pikachu, I think I've seen you somewhere....." Casey just felt that the combination of Ash and Pikachu looked familiar, but one Pokémon was missing.
Ash nodded. "That's right, I plan to participate in the Johto League Competition."
"League Competition? Oh, that's right, I remember now! You're the Champion of the Indigo Plateau Conference! Where's your Gardevoir? Can you let it out so I can see it!" Casey looked at Ash excitedly.
Johto and Kanto are neighboring regions and are very close, and the area of the regions is also small. Trainers from both regions actually have no regional barriers, so the Indigo Plateau Conference was broadcast by many TV stations in the Johto region as well.
"I left Gardevoir at home with my mom, I didn't bring it."
Compared to Pikachu, Shiny Gardevoir's popularity and recognition were even higher.
"What a shame!" A hint of regret appeared on Casey's face. Immediately, she took out a pen and paper and said, "Mr. Ash, could you sign an autograph for me?"
Ash looked at Casey's adoring gaze and could only helplessly sign his name.
Brock quietly said to Misty, "Ash sure has good luck with women!"
"That only proves Ash is excellent enough, and Casey has good taste," Misty said with a look of indifference.
Anyway, Casey was just a passerby and would soon part ways with them. She wouldn't be jealous.
"Mr. Ash, could I trouble you with one more thing?" Casey suddenly stood up and said seriously.
"What is it?" Ash looked over, puzzled.
Casey said seriously, "Please have a battle with me, Mr. Ash. I also want to become an excellent Pokemon Trainer. Mr. Ash is the Champion of the Indigo Plateau Conference, and I think I can learn something by battling you."
"Alright, but the Pokémon I'm carrying now are all high-level. My Pokémon for this battle will be Eevee, and Casey, you can freely use all your Pokémon."
Even the Pokémon Ash carried, such as Eevee and Carvanha, which had only recently hatched, had elite-level combat power. Facing a Newcomer Trainer who was still at the normal level was simply a one-sided match.
Of course, Ash wouldn't be so unkind; he would still go easy when necessary. After all, Newcomer Trainers still need some self-confidence, and this battle could also be considered an acting test for Eevee.
"Eevee is so cute too! Mr. Ash, I've only caught three Pokémon. My lead batter is this one, go, Pidgey!" Casey threw out her first Poké Ball.
"Pidgey! A good Pokémon. You go first!"
Ash didn't plan to be too hard on a normal-level common bird Pokémon.
"Pidgey, use Quick Attack!"
Pidgey charged towards Eevee like an arrow.
Eevee watched the approaching Pidgey and dodged the attack with simple footwork.
"Against a strong opponent, a rash attack can easily lead to a disadvantage. Eevee, use Swift."
Eevee unleashed several waves of star-shaped light clusters at Pidgey. Pidgey was hit and immediately lost its ability to battle.
