Chapter 166: Heracross
"I know," Casey said, but her actions clearly showed her impatience: "It's your turn now, Rattata, use Tackle!"
Ash could only sigh helplessly at this, "Ah!"
Then he conveyed through Aura to Eevee to cooperate with the act.
It must be said that this girl's family has indeed trained her very well, but her choice of Pokémon to go out with was terribly wrong. She was suited for a reckless rushdown style, yet she chose a Chikorita, and then caught a Pidgey and a Rattata. She had no Pokémon that could serve as a damage dealer for a rushdown style; blindly rushing would only lead to defeat.
After receiving Ash's Aura message, Eevee 'struggled' with Rattata for several moves and then 'narrowly' won.
"Casey, Pokémon battles aren't won just by brute force and passion. You need to learn to use your brain. During a battle, you must calmly observe your opponent's movements, and at the same time, you need to think about your Pokémon's advantages. Only by skillfully utilizing your advantages can you unleash your Pokémon's full power," Ash instructed.
Hearing this, Casey felt as if she had been struck by lightning. Ash was right; if she continued like this, she would soon be swept by Eevee. "I understand, Mr. Ash. This time, Chikorita, you're up!"
"Chikorita, release sweet Scent."
The leaf on Chikorita's head extended forward, and a sweet aroma wafted from the leaf towards Eevee.
Smelling the sweet scent, Eevee immediately relaxed.
"Good, Chikorita, now use Vine Whip to bind Eevee!" Casey gave another command.
Two Vine Whips extended from both sides of Chikorita's neck.
"Eevee, use Dig to dodge."
Eevee quickly dug a hole downwards, dodging Chikorita's Vine Whip.
"That's a bit of strategy, but not enough. sweet Scent is just the natural sweetness from Chikorita's head leaf, which can make people relax but has no offensive power. Casey, you can use it in conjunction with Poison Powder or Toxic once Chikorita learns them."
To think of using Chikorita's inherent scent to make others drop their guard so quickly proves that Casey is very talented in the field of Pokémon battles.
"Now it's time for you to guess where Eevee will attack from."
Casey nervously watched the ground. When she saw a slight tremor in the ground where Chikorita was standing, she shouted, "Chikorita, run! Be careful of Eevee attacking from underground."
Chikorita ran on the ground with its short legs.
"Eevee, that's enough!" Ash suddenly said.
Then, Eevee emerged from where it had just dug and used Swift on the running Chikorita. The attack hit Chikorita, and it lost its ability to battle.
Eevee, meanwhile, pretended to be out of breath and ran back to Ash's shoulder, rubbing his face.
"Thank you, Mr. Ash!" Casey sincerely thanked Ash.
This battle taught her many things.
Casey walked with Ash and his friends for a short distance. After reaching a fork in the road, Casey bid farewell to the trio and embarked on her solo journey, while Ash and his friends continued towards Violet City.
The group hadn't walked long before they entered a forest.
Then, as expected, Ash and his friends got lost again.
Unbeknownst to them, the trio had walked in the forest for three days. Today, they arrived at a small area where the trees had withered.
"What, what's going on? How did it suddenly become so desolate?" Brock wondered.
Misty observed the surroundings, noticing trees with only bare branches. "Brock is right! The trees here seem to have all withered."
Brock pointed to the boundary between the lush green trees and the withered trees, saying, "Only the trees within this area are like this; the trees outside are still normal."
"Look over there," Ash shouted, pointing to a thick tree.
"Huh… what is that? Could it be all insects?" Misty's face showed fear.
"Is that… Heracross?" Brock said uncertainly.
Ash nodded, "It is them."
"Could they be Bug-type Pokémon? They seem to be sucking something. Could these withered trees be their doing?" Misty guessed.
"Heracross are Bug/Fighting-type Pokémon. They are sucking the sweet sap from the trees, but these withered trees are not their doing; their nature is very gentle," Ash explained.
"This young man is very well-informed. Heracross indeed would not do anything to harm the forest."
Just then, a Old man in a red protective suit walked over.
"Who are you?"
"My name is Mori-nan, and I am a member of the Forest Guard," the man introduced himself.
Ash and the others also introduced themselves one by one.
"Mr. Mori-nan, are you here to investigate the cause of the forest's wilting?" Misty asked.
"That's right. This place, centered around those Heracross, is where everyone maintains ecological balance and lives peacefully. So Heracross are not the Pokémon that destroy the forest."
No sooner had Mori-nan finished speaking than a group of Butterfree flew to the tree where the Heracross were. The Heracross, seeing the arrival of the Butterfree, all gave up the best feeding spots.
"The wilting of the trees here is a phenomenon that only appeared in the last two days. The balance of the forest has been broken."
"Pika?"
"Eevee?"
Pikachu and Eevee simultaneously looked in a certain direction.
They gazed at the rising dust in the distance, and the sharp, horned object emerging from within the dust.
Brock was surprised, "What is that?"
"Pinsir!"
"It is them. They are the ones who broke the ecological balance of this part of the forest," Mori-nan said gravely.
The Pinsir group immediately prepared to seize the large tree where Heracross and Butterfree were. The Butterfree, seeing the aggressive Pinsir, were scared and immediately left the tree. The gentle Heracross also had no intention of fighting with the Pinsir and flapped their wings, willingly giving up the large tree.
"Look, there's still a Butterfree staying up there!" Misty shouted.
"No, we have to save it quickly!" Brock said.
A Heracross was seen shielding a Butterfree beneath itself, resisting the blows from the large pincers on the Pinsir's head.
Ash released Gimmighoul and said, "Gimmighoul, use Confuse Ray! Pikachu, use Iron Tail! Eevee, Swift!"
Gimmighoul opened its treasure chest and used Confuse Ray, while Pikachu transformed into a yellow Shinny, using a powerful strike to knock down the Pinsir around Heracross one by one. Eevee, meanwhile, attacked the other Pinsir.
The Pinsir group were clearly bullies who preyed on the weak; after only a minor attack, they tucked their tails and fled.
"Simply driving back the Pinsir won't solve the problem. If the root cause isn't addressed, they will still return," Mori-nan worriedly said.
"Mr. Mori-nan, you are part of the Forest Guard. You should know where those Pinsir came from. Please take us to the forest where the Pinsir are."
Ash somewhat recalled that these Pinsir might have left their home because of the three clumsy Team Rockets.
"Okay!"
From Ash's performance just now, Mori-nan knew that Ash might be an excellent Trainer, and with the help of a Trainer, the chances of solving the problem were much greater.
